"Is Your Church Involved in Praying for the Upcoming Elections?"
http://www.presidentialprayerteam.com/

Check the poll. Is "praying for" a code word for "getting out the vote?"

2. Since my church is a reform synagogue I seriously doubt
they are praying for or even working to get out the vote for Bush.

3. Gotta love a "prayer" site with a Shopping Cart on it home page
I just can't wait to see how these sites fall off the radar as soon as Kerry gets inaugurated January 20th.

4. Church
That's why Bush gave them federal money. It's the payback time. They need to be cut off from the federal welfare list immediately!

6. Don't think so
My church is a Catholic church. I don't think it would mingle too much with evangelical or fundamentalist type churches or many southern churches.

Does US Law Mute Voices Of Churches?
By Jane Lampman | Staff writer of The Christian Science Monitor

(2004-09-22) Religion is striking a high profile in the 2004 campaign. But there are those eager to see it take on a much larger role - both now and in the future. More than 130 members of the US House of Representatives want to amend the law that prohibits partisan activity - such as political rallies, fundraisers, distribution of political literature, and direct endorsements from the pulpit - by pastors and houses of worship. They hope to do this by inserting a provision into a bill that is already before a House-Senate conference committee - thus avoiding public debate or votes in either body.

Supporters say the provision is needed to restore free speech to religious leaders. Barring political endorsements from the pulpit
curtails the First Amendment rights of pastors, they say.

8. I have absolutely no problem with this particular petition:
"As the nation prepares for the presidential debates, pray for the candidates in their preparation, and for those who will observe, both in the halls and around the world, that the issues and views will be clear so all Americans can be wisely informed as they vote."

*****************

In fact, that is EXACTLY what I'm praying for. O8)

The hypocrisy is unbelievable! Their website claims they do not endorse any candidate, and will continue in their efforts to support any future presidency. HOWEVER, all their petitions, photos, and stories feature * alone. They are in jeopardy of losing their tax-exempt status if they only mention * by name.

Perhaps most telling is this:
"Pray for protection for the President, members of his team and for the members of the media who continue to travel across the country."

But please, please, PLEASE do not lump all churches into one category! Some of us are completely committed to a message of peace and the golden rule. And some of us preachers have been actively speaking out against certain policies and atrocities around the world.

10. I voted "NO" on their poll, and sent the following message:
"I am hoping you will post photos and prayer petitions for John Kerry. All I have seen is a thinly veiled endorsement of re-election of Mr. Bush. How can you do this and maintain your tax-exempt status?"

**************

When I get a reply, I will post it here. :) O8)
