Forget the Guard Memo...we have bigger fish to fry

- Does it really matter if the memo is 'real' or 'fake'? Neither side will change their mind and everyone, including RWingers, know that Bush* was of the privileged class and did 'less than honorable' service.

- The more important thing to note is that this is one of those distractions that redirects our attention and dialogue away from the pivotal issues facing our country.

- We seem to be once again biting at the bait...concentrating on issues that will be of absolutely no consequence to the election.

US soldiers and Iraqi civilians are dying daily in the Middle East because politicians can't admit that they were wrong to authorize an unjust, aggressive war.

The Patriot Act has literally destroyed the Bill of Rights. The only amendment that remains viable is the second because it means votes for the Right.

Homeland Security isn't about terrorism...but about oppressing the American people and war profiteering.

The most secretive US administration in history created a 'shadow government' without the advice and consent of the Democratic party.

Dissent has become virtually illegal. Protesters are rounded up and put in jail without charges or due process. Peaceful Activists are preemptively 'interviewed', videotaped and put on watch lists.

A rubber-stamp congress refuses to hold the Bush* administration accountable for anything...including war crimes in Iraq and other places.

The American media is campaigning for Bush* and character assassinating his opponents.

- The list goes on and on. Yet, we're once again caught up with the equivalent of shark attack stories and allowing the Bushies to frame the debate on literally every issue.

- Our leadership must change tactics and go on the offensive.

What still matters about the memo flap is that it would hurt the
cause if CBS were to take a major hit on this. As far as we can tell, CBS is the only news outlet that is attempting to report the news fairly. Their success of failure about the Bush memos will have a significant effect on future media reports.

2. It will have no 'effect' on other media reports...
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 06:19 AM by Q
...and while I respect Rather for his stance on this issue...it's not important enough to take a stand that distracts from more important issues. It was also proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Bush* was involved in Insider trading and many other illegal business deals in Texas. Bush* also has a connection to the Saudis that helped finance terrorism.

- This memo will mean nothing to the election...which is why the Bush* Team is laughing their asses off all the way back to the WH.

3. I agree. Its too bad if CBS recieved poisened documents
hand fed by Karl Rove. But we need to hammer on the issues, the excuses, the lack of responsibiliey and the fiasco in Iraq.

If CBS gets taken out, that is a side show anyway. We don't need to defend the documents, but we CAN demand to know the truth about AWOL's derelection of duty.

But i agree. Hit them on the miserable performance of this failed administration.

4. Attack the Neo Fascists!!!!
People complain about negative campaigning but then conradict themselves and say..."Well.. they work.

Kerry needs to go on full metal jacket attack. Pick a few topics and hammer those ad nauseum.

Main topic: Bush is a coward and a miserable failure domesticly and in the wars that he and the Neo Fascists started. Bush and his buglers did not protect America from 911 Attacks and on that day did nothing to save lives. Osama who? Bush and his bunglers have made America less safe.

Two more issues:

Economy-Sucks. Outsourcing/ Relocation of mfg.

Healthcare.

Brand those in people's minds. Keep it simple.

6. I know they have been giving speeches.
I am saying that they should hone in as I suggested.

7. It seems to me that the Dems has a three prong attack going and
it is indeed taking junior and his thugs down.

Case in point is Lou Dobbs poll last night and still going strong on CNN.com/lou

Ralphie is giving junior the real race.

Which presidential candidate do you believe would best fulfill his campaign promises for the next four years?

President Bush
10%
850 votes

Sen. John Kerry
85%
7212 votes

Ralph Nader
5%
447 votes
Total: 8509 votes

8. Domestic Issues
are Bush's* weak point. He needs to highlight lost jobs and outsourcing, healthcare (having elderly parents, this is important to me), cost of the war, and asking where are the WMD's and Osama bin Forgotten.

Honor and integrity in the White House? :puke:

You're right about going on the attack. The RW's and neo-cons don't play fair. They'd kick him in the crotch as soon as look at him.

10. I appreciate your concern
And those are great points. But when dealing with a simple populace, it may be more effective to prove the Liar a liar and then paint everything he has done as a sham.
This guy parading as president does not belong there and it is more evident every day.
Spitting tobacco in the back row in college and reading about a pet goat when the country was being attacked do not a leader make.

13. Isn't it obvious by now that you can't 'prove' anything...
...about Bush* with a media actually CAMPAIGNING FOR HIM?

- It's simply too late for Democrats to try prove that Bush's* past is full of fraud and deceit. This is something they should have accomplished in 2000 when the news was hot.

- We must stick with the important issues and HAMMER THEM HOME.

14. Except
The whole National Guard issue is a loser. Did Bush skate on his comittment in 1972-1973? No doubt about it. Was he called on it at the time?? No, he was just shuffled off administratively. Is there anything there to find something criminal on?? No. Unless the commander says to 1Lt Bush, "Be at the hospital at 0900 tomorrow morning for a Flight Physical or else", there is no direct order. Essentially, Killian wanted him gone so that he could get some pilots on who had been RIFed from active duty in 1972. He just wanted the CYA so that no stink was raised as he shuffled George out of the Guard. Read the memos. The remark at the bottom of one about "pilots leaving active duty" is what convinces me they are genuine, yet they are not a smoking gun. Bush was eased out of the Guard administratively without leaving a black mark in his records.

Dry hole, drill somewheres else.

11. Bush* is NOT a 'decisive leader' in the 'war on terrorism'...
...starting with allowing an attack to happen on the US when HE was on vacation for a MONTH and then sitting in a classroom with children instead of acting as CIC.

- And then lies our country into a war against a country that had nothing to do with 911.

- This isn't leadership. It's insanity.
