1. clipped from the article
A Washington Post reporter's confidential source has revealed his or her identity to the special prosecutor conducting the CIA leak inquiry, a development that provides investigators with a fact they have been pursuing in the nearly year-long probe.

Post reporter Walter Pincus, who had been subpoenaed to testify to a grand jury in the case, instead gave a deposition yesterday in which he recounted his conversation with the source, whom he has previously identified as an "administration official." Pincus said he did not name the source and agreed to be questioned only with the source's approval.

"I understand that my source has already spoken to the special prosecutor about our conversation on July 12 <2003>, and that the special prosecutor has dropped his demand that I reveal my source. Even so, I will not testify about his or her identity," Pincus said in a prepared statement.

"The source has not discharged us from the confidentiality pledge," said The Post's executive editor, Leonard Downie Jr.

2. It sounds like Libby may not be the leaker
Pincus answered questions about Libby as well. Both he and Cooper said they did so with Libby's approval, and both said that their conversations with Libby did not touch on the identity of Wilson's wife.

Fitzgerald had focused on Libby as the possible leaker of Plame's name and identity, but the new subpoenas to Time suggest he may be rethinking that theory. Four reporters have now testified at Libby's urging that he did not disclose Plame's name or identity to them.

My money is still on Mary Matalin.

4. he'll probably step down until after the election.
like Perle & that Swiftie lawyer, he'll blather about not wanting to distract from the campaign or something.

Then quietly pop up later.

11. Mary was brought back to Cheney's office specifically
to handle spin control over the Niger documents. She had left the administration but once the forgeries became known they called her back. It's always been just a hunch of mine.

She wouldn't do it without his ok.

3. Posters here already speculated that John Hannah rolled over
Edited on Thu Sep-16-04 08:07 AM by wishlist
This seems to confirm what several DU'ers already concluded several weeks ago that one of the leakers probably admitted to Fitzgerald and is probably getting immunity.

Isn't Hannah the guy who works under Libby and who has a close relationship with Judith Miller of NYT?

13. Actually, it has been confirmed
in numerous news articles that John Hannah was "turned" last year. He and David Wurmser were the ones who called several reporters. Wurmser worked for John Bolton.

Chris Matthews has confirmed that Karl Rove spoke to him at that time about Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, being "fair game."

DUers who keep up to date on the Plame threads recognize the names as being among those implicated in the neocon spy scandal, along with Franklin. They can also piece in the recent reports that Patrick "Bulldog" Fitzgerald has been investigating a leak by one or two NY Times reporters, that warned a suspected Islamic front that the FBI was on its way to visit.

Also note today's reports that Fitzgerald has again subpoened TIME and Matt Cooper.

The reason this is taking so long is that it has proved to be an expanded investigation. Months ago, I reported that the VP's office had "exposed" Plame to derail an active investigation involving WMD components. In fact, the forged "yellow cake uranium" documents, likely created by the Israeli front involved in the neocon spy scandal, needed to be protected.

As Sandy Berger told Wilson, the fact that the administration backed down so fast and admitted an error on those 16 words, this "meant they must have something more important to protect." (Wilson, pagw 4) Now we know what it is. More important, the Bulldog knows exactly what it is. Hannah and Franklin have spilled their guts.

Soon we will be singing the frogmarch song.

5. I speculate Fitzgerald is witholding the info"for the good of the country"
which is what these Busheviks ALWAYS have claimed since they tried to Coup FDR in 1934 and rplace him with a Military Dictator.

Fitzgerald wouldn't want to "unduly influence" a Presidenmtial Election by providing a window into the naked and base corruption that is the Imperial Family Operation.

That is how it works, my friends. Count on it.

I guarantee it, NOTHING will come of Plame before Nov 2nd.

Of course, it is irrelevant that if this was Kerry's Chief of Staff it would be smeared all over Amerikan Pravd whether it was true or not.

Orwellian Double-Standrads are the hallmark of Totalitarian Nations like Imperial Amerika. Thus this is entirely unsurprising.

8. Just like if Kerry wins, media will claim not wanting to 'tip' election
I can guarantee that if Kerry wins, all kinds of Bushit will hit the fan and media will defend their lack of coverage by saying that the polls were so close that they didn't want to tip the election. Just like after Clinton beat daddyBush and then Dole, WP and others in media admitted they knew about daddyBush and Dole affairs but didn't release info because Clinton was far enough ahead in the polls they didn't see any reason to beat up on daddyBush or Dole. (As if that made it OK to cover all of the Clinton womanizing allegations but not the Repub affairs)

12. Yep. You got it.
But what it really means is that no one dares to go against the Imperials. It's hardwired into the system now, much to my astonishment.

9. "tried to Coup FDR in 1934"
Major General Smedley Butler was an honest man. Bless him. If only there were more like him.

He said he wanted to see Rove frog marched out of the white house. Maybe it was Rove after all.

16. Sorry, I misspoke about my hero Mr. Pincus
of course he didn't literally name his source; he would never do such a thing.

The source spoke to Fitzgerals and released Pincus from his pledge of anonymity, but Pincus still did not name him, as I understand the situation now.
