Easily as illegal as the German invasion of Chechoslovakia...

Or almost anything England did in the 1800's

3. There is nothing to dispute.
Under international law the war was illegal.

Plain. And. Simple.

Whether it had been America, or Iran...It makes it no less illegal because the "big bad freedom fighting Americans" did it.

4. Yep
That makes Junior a war criminal. The sooner he is in the pokey, the sooner we can get on with world affairs

6. It's pretty simple
When we signed the UN Charter (which we helped write), we did it because the entire world had recently seen how out of control war would become with modern weapons. The civilized world decided to declare an end to wars of conquest, territorial expansion, and colonial exploitation. From then on, the only valid reasons to go to war were:

  • Self-defense

  • Defense of an ally

  • To avert a humanitarian catastrophe

  • There is no conceivable way that the invasion of Iraq meets any of those criteria.

    8. I don't see how it could be legal
We invaded a country that was not a threat. Lies were knowingly made about Iraq attempting to acquire nuclear material from Africa, inspection time was shortened, and this preemptive attack was planned long before 9/11. Then there's the photographic evidence of war crimes. And now, or course, we are occupiers of a country with a rich history we don't understand, religious beliefs that many of Americans are biased against, and we're creating a whole new generation of people who hate us and have nothing to lose. If this isn't illegal, then it's at least very stupid.

But if Anan doesn't like the Iraq war, I hope he will speak up louder when the drums of war beat toward Iran. The rumbling is light right now, but it's on its way.

    9. Hope you checked the poll as well. Simple fact: the second UN vote
was required to give this legitimacy. W tried twisting arms like he did with Congress but still didn't have the majority, so the vote was....preempted.

The UN is responsible for enforcing its resolutions. The resolution was not about a personal war between the USA and Iraq.

    12. Yes according to the rule of the Law it is both against the UN charter
    and The U.S. Constitution .

because we are signatories to the UN charter
it is a violation of our very own Constitution .

"This illegal, immoral, unjustified and unjustifiable war" is my standard language on the subject.

Edited to add: This is what makes me so hopping mad with all those who voted for the IWR. Not only was it going to be an illegal, immoral, unjustified and unjustifiable war, their vote ALSO validated Bush's illegal, immoral, unjustified and unjustifiable "pre-emptive war" doctrine. They sold us, Iraq and the world out, for their own political well-being.
