Someone else verifies secretary's story
Another former Texas National Guard officer, Richard Via, also said that the documents were fakes but that their content reflected questions about Bush that were discussed at the time in the hangar at Ellington Air Force Base, where he had a desk next to Killian's.

Via said he and others he worked with "remember the physical, and him going to Alabama was an issue." He said Killian "made notes and put them in his files about things like that."

Killian kept the files because "he was trying to cover his ass," Via said. "He was always worried something would come back on him."

He said Killian's secretary "would type them up, and he'd put it in his desk drawer and lock it."

2. hmmm- sounds like someone who worked in that office with Killian
knew about the memos, saw the memos, and tried to reconstruct them and
send them to CBS and Rather.

Maybe this guy who worked next to Killian. But he can never admit he
forged the papers if he did.

The point is that both he and the secretary on tonight got the information out that the information on the documents was accurate even if they weren't originals.

One of the neatest sandbag jobs I've seen. He had that secretary ace up his sleeve the whole time.

5. Wonder why...
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 08:57 PM by Hepburn
...the witness who saw the memos did not just come forth? Assuming someone re-constructed the memos: Why do this? It just would cause problems, but coming forward with facts that others remember, that seems much more logical.

6. cause when people see it in black n white - they believe - verbal
is always she said/he said...so the person tried to get it into black
and white. It's someone who has seen the originals, worked in that
office, knew enough of Killian's signature, and knew how those docs
were usually titled.

They meant well....

but it's okay.

As someone said, Dan has got them now, but they'll keep trying to change the subject.

But he has that sharp elder lady on tape. And she was no nonsense.

Dontcha just luv it.

Yay. Woopee...yee haw

3. Kick for truth
Edited on Wed Sep-15-04 08:48 PM by SpiralHawk
The AWOL - Deserter story finally has legs, and well it should -- for George W. Bush needs to be held responsible for what he has done, and for what he has failed to do.

NB that this is USA Today -- again coming through with some solid reporting.

Meanwhile, CBS is standing strong.

And the AP is still on the story -- you can bet your bippy.

Meanwhile, Kitty Kelley is pulling the mask off other parts of BushCo.

Let the truth be revealed. May justice prevail.

7. Maybe someone "cleaned-up" the original typed memos
Ms. Knox denies typing "those" memos however states that the information in them is correct. She states that Killian did write a memo like "that", but went on to say "Its seem that somebody did see those memos and then tried to reproduce and maybe changed them enough so that he wouldn't get in trouble over it -- could deny it."

Were the "originals" more invective? Or is trying to recall adverbatim a document from 32 years a bit of a stretch for any mind on this planet?

Here's a link to CBS News, with a small clip with a few words from that fantstic retired, 86 year old secretary. If someone told me she's 86, I'd think he's delusional.

Hoping for the best for CBS. They are GREAT!

11. Purging of babyBush's files looks like the worse crime to be investigated
If the documents in question are not originals but contain the exact same information that original memos would have contained, then someone must have had access to Killian's original files or notes in order to type up the documents in question, since his secretary and co-worker vouch for the accuracy of the contents. Raises big question that if these copies are 'fakes' then what happened to Killian's original memos that should have been retained in official military files at the National Guard.

Seems to be that the bigger crime is Bushco getting away with tampering with and purging official military records and stonewalling the release of his records, but most of media has downplayed that explosive story.

13. Could they be the 5th & 6th memo that CBS has not released?
Recall Dan said CBS has released only 4 of 6 memos it has in its possession. USAtoday released 6 but we do not know if they are the same 6 memos Dan refers to.

16. No
CYA memos are usually not placed in the office files. Killian would have kept them in the "file drawer" in the right pedestal of his desk. When he left, he would have destroyed them or taken them home with him.

If they had gone into the office files, they would have been destroyed after three years or so.
