The Ahwahnee Lodge in Yosemite, the Cabins at Itasca
and many other national projects were funded "thanks" to the Depression. By the W.P.A and by the C.C.C - all parts of Roosevelt's New Deal.

And as we were reading these stories in Itasca State Park's museum, we were thinking about all the pugs who still hate Roosevelt and the New Deal and wondered: what would they have done? Let those with no money just die?

1. that is precisely what they would have done....
They hate the poor. And they fear them.

2. Of course. And, if the DEms don't start speaking up about poverty issues,
people like me are going to be dying in droves. Silently.

Does it matter?

BTW, there are *many* CCC projects in Rocky Mountain National Park, too. I'm sure there are many all over the country that are little known.

3. I am sure there are
and, as we observed several cars with Kerry Edwards bumper stickers, and some union acronyms for Kerry, it dawned on me that today's pugs do not visit the national parks. With their power SUVs and power MacMansions and "me, me and me" attitude, visiting a national park and being grateful for what a government can do is not in their line of interest.

5. So, it doesn't matter. No wonder some of us just give up.

4. The one thing...
I would say is that the WPA also built a lot of dams, which are bad. Also, all the roads and traffic that come with those National Park Lodges aren't good either. It would be better for the environment if there was more hiking and camping and less lodges and logging in the National Parks.

6. My grandfather had 13 children to support
in the foothills of Virginia. Had he not worked for the WPA at the Tenn. Valley Authority and Flagler's overseas railroad to Key West, well no telling what would have happened. The railroad track to Key West was lost to a 1929 hurricane where many of the workers died. Thanks for the reminder of this.
