so today, i met an african american who's voting for Bush.
he's in my sociology class, and came into the room wearing a Bush/Cheney sticker on his shirt. I asked him why he supported Bush, and he said "because i'm a republican". I asked him why he was a Republican, and he said "because my parents are republicans." apparently, they have their own business, and benefited from Bush's tax cuts or something. i asked him what he thought about Bush's policies towards crime, inner cities, and minorites, and he wasn't familiar with them.

*sigh*. what is that line about chicken voting for colonel sanders?

15. So I take it you don't approve of his choice
Perhaps you'd like to repeat your words to his face. Probably not.

You can't assume someone is going to do the intuitive thing - everyone needs to be convinced.

6. Yep, they are out there...unfortunately
I told a story not too long ago about a black guy at work who poo poohed F/911 and boasted about having a picture of his idol, Richard Nixon, hanging in his office. I continue to be amazed at the level of ignorance that is required to lead one to become a black republican.

13. The fact is, that if you have enough money, whether you are
gay or female or a racial minority, then you don't have to worry about republican vs. democrat.

I just wish we could find a way to convince people that that is all the pukes are about, money.

That's why they spend so much dough trying to convince people it's about abortion or religion, because if people found out the truth they wouldn't have a chance in hell of winning a majority in any election outside of millionaire neighborhoods.

19. We should be honest with ourselves
Greedy people come in every race.

Also, many black people don't have any connection with inner cities. Hell, I have more of a connection with an "inner city" than many blacks do and I grew up in a mostly homogenous suburb.

Apparently this guy grew up wealthy and privelaged. To him all that matters is maintaining his lifestyle. What happens to others (white, black, brown or other) doesn't matter worth a damn.

This mentality is prevelant among all races. The way I see it is anyone - whether they're white, black, Asian, Hispanic, or otherwise - is a fool for voting for Bush.

21. In a significant way, I'm glad.
I really abhor the notion that a person's individuality (including their right to be wrong) is somehow secondary to the color of their skin. I've discovered that it's not even at all justifiable for me to conclude that a person is (or isn't) African-American (and I use that hyphenated-American term with reluctance) on the basis of their appearance. Same goes for the whole spectrum of racial/ethnic stereotypes. I've decided (some time ago) I'll gladly leave that completely up to them. It's just not my job description.

23. The chicken/sanders line was ...
... Former Repug. U.S. Rep. J.C. Watts' father used to tell him, "A black man voting for the Republicans makes about as much sense as a chicken voting for Col. Sanders."

But J.C. didn't listen.

31. Read Harry Belafonte's famous remarks ...
"There's an old saying, in the days of slavery, there were those slaves who lived on the plantation and were those slaves that lived in the house. You got the privilege of living in the house if you served the master exactly the way the master intended to have you serve him.

"Colin Powell's committed to come into the house of the master. When Colin Powell dares to suggest something other than what the master wants to hear, he will be turned back out to pasture."
