I just voted in the state Republican Primary. I need a shower.
My mayor is Republican and has been making the tough choices all term to make our city fiscally solvent. He's been pissing off both parties, and the local Repubs have sent a no nothing bastard in to oppose him in the primary. The Dem candidate is from the local white boy network and doesn't stand a chance. I had to vote for the good man that I didn't agree with all the time rather than the man who would be bad for our City.

After voting, when asked if I wished to return to being "unafilliated", I said "yes" before she finished her question.

This is not my first Republican I have voted for- Lincoln Chafee is my Senator, and I have always voted for his Father as well. This is my first Republican Primary, having voted in Dem primaries exclusively.
There is talk that my mayor will run against Patrick Kennedy in two years. I'm not a big Patrick fan, but have always voted for him. I may have a big choice ahead of me.

Let the flaming begin!

1. You won't get a flame from me
There are some politicians out there that just don't deserve to be elected, whether they are DINOs or winos, gamblers or cheaters, liars or adulterers. Sometimes making a difficult choice is the only way to save our souls, rather than elect someone who has no true intention of serving his/her constituency.

4. thank you
Some have taken my low post count as proof of my being a "newbie", a Troll, or a freeper.
I have been "welcomed" to DU for years. But I have been sickened by accusations because I don't tow the line. The Dem party is corrupt in RI and the Republicans are unorganized. I pick and I choose my votes carefully.

I have been a member of DU since the 2000 debacle. I found it through a link on Bartcop for an early top ten list. I found Bart from a Landover Baptist link. But how did I find Landover...?

Praise!

8. The Mass Dems aren't much better
It's an 'old boy' network, but then we get jackasses like Mitt Romney as governor.

Lincoln Chaffee is a good man. When is he going to leave the Republican party though?

2. Me either.
People do this all the time in Texas-- vote for the lesser of two evils when possible. I know many people who've done it.

We gotta do what we gotta do.

5. While I've never voted for a Republican myself,
I have refused to vote for Dems I felt weren't good for the party. We had a Dem running for sheriff once in my county who dug up some old slime on the Rep, something bizarre from his past like a decade-old tax audit or failure to pay child support, something that was so far in the guy's past and irrelevant to his ability to be county sheriff it was ludicrous. I didn't think much of the Republican either, so I wouldn't have voted for him, but I just couldn't bring myself to punch the card for a Democrat who used Republican tactics that slimy in an attempt to win, either.

So no flames here -- I understand.

6. Some diehard pubbies still cling to the party of Lincoln
and Teddy Roosevelt. They soldier on in the sincere hope that their party may forget the insanity and return to its roots.

Who knows? Some day it may, but they will be dead and gone to dust.

I've voted for good pubbies in New England prior to 1980, but that was the year everything changed. Even good pubbies are under intense pressure, both political and financial, to toe the fascist line set forth by Thomas DeLay, the theocratic line set forth by the wingnut preachers on televangelist shows. If the good pubbies want my vote, they'll have to switch parties when they get to the national level.

The farther that party lurches to the extreme right, the more moderates they will lose. And that's how it should be.

7. My problem with Lincoln Chafee is that he votes to keep
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 08:46 AM by Rowdyboy
Bill Frist controlling the senate, thus allowing idiots like Santorum, Hatch, McConnell, Allen and Lott to remain in positions of power. He really should make it official and change parties.
