CNN Reporting ENTIRE COUNTRY (Iraq) without power
On the morning report; the two latest bombings (the pipeline junction being the latest, I guess) have left the entire country -- not just one city or region -- without power.

Yay. I feel more secure every day. And more in the dark.

1. Not on any websites, but...
al-Jazeera and the BBC are reporting the Turks are getting really pissed at our operations up next to Syria-- killing Iraqi Turkmen and all, so they are threatening to pull out completely if we don't stop.

It just keeps getting better and better...

4. Yeah, I felt that way
when I had no power for 11 days last fall after Hurricane Isabel.
After wanting to do serious harm to Virginia Power every morning when I woke up to a hot, non-functional home, I then remembered to appreciate my freedom.
Is it any wonder these people are nearly 100% against us?

5. I just heard it as well. On the BBC Newshour on NPR....
The pipeline is on fire and they don't expect to put it out for at least three days. I am betting the green zone has some big bad ass generators to get them through.

yes indeedy... we have turned the corner all right! We are all heading towards hell on earth if dimbulb* is reselected.

6. Christ. I know a guy who's stationed on Syrian border--
Hubby & I helped pay for his upgraded body armor...(hey, Snipers need body armor. We also chipped in for an ammo pack--the mil gives 'em this cheesy thing that makes the ammo CLANK when you move--we figured it's not good for a sniper to make lots of noise...)
This is scary.

8. But, remember the newest talking point
The increase in violent activity in Iraq is being done by TERRORISTS who want to influence the US elections in KERRY'S favor.

Therefore, all the violence in Iraq will not disgust the American public, but make them even more resolved to "stay the course."

That's the repug talking point for the week...as I heard so clearly on last night's Hairball.

9. link....the WHOLE COUNTRY....even the USA Greenzone, without power
http://www.boston.com/dailynews/258/economy/Saboteurs_blow_up_pipeline_jun:.shtml

KIRKUK, Iraq (AP) Saboteurs blew up a junction where multiple oil pipelines cross the Tigris River in northern Iraq on Tuesday, setting off a chain reaction in power generation systems that left the entire country without power, officials said.

Firefighters struggled to put out the blaze after the attack near Beiji, 155 miles north of Baghdad. Crude oil cascaded down the hillside into the river. Fire burned atop the water, fueled by the gushing oil.

<snip>
Attacks on Iraqi security forces and police officers — considered to be collaborators by militants — have left hundreds of people dead since insurgents began a 17-month campaign to expel U.S.-led forces and destabilize Allawi’s government.

Meanwhile, saboteurs blew up a junction where multiple oil pipelines cross the Tigris River in northern Iraq on Tuesday, setting off a chain reaction in power generation systems that left the entire country without power, officials said.

Firefighters struggled to put out the blaze after the attack near Beiji, 250 kilometres north of Baghdad. Crude oil cascaded down the hillside into the river. Fire burned atop the water, fuelled by the gushing oil.

12. and....the ONLY water in Iraq is now heavily polluted....

although some of the lighter weight oil fractions will float and burn and evaporate...the HIGHER weight fractions will continue to pollute the water throughout Baghdad and all point south....

this is also water that OUR soldiers drink...the military has some separate mobile water treatment units...but oil slime is difficult to remove under even the most advanced water treatment technology....sooooo...even with generators inside the USA Green Zones, they can't run everything off generators (and how long?)...it must be really weird in the USA Embassy and many other buildings in the Green Zone WITHOUT ELECTRICITY....

stay tuned for the second act....it's not over until the FAT LADY SINGS !!!

Save America....vote Kerry

16. Yes, who could have predicted such a thing?
Who could have predicted that trying to prop up a tripartite state with no real reason to exist would be so difficult?

Who could have predicted that long-submerged conflicts between Sunni, Shiite and Kurd would bring things to a rolling boil once Saddam went?

Who could have predicted that guarding the Oil Ministry while leaving the hospitals, universities, libraries and museums to the tender mercies of looters might send the wrong message to the Iraqis about just where our priorities lay?

Who could have predicted that letting stinking ponds of sewage build up in a thousands filthy alleyways and a thousand busy streets would perhaps not restore Iraqi confidence in the ability of the New Sheriff In Town to handle day-to-day affairs?

Who could have predicted that building 14 - FOURTEEN - massive US military bases in Iraq might provoke serious doubts on the part of the Iraqis as to just what kind of state they would be living in?

Who could have predicted that long and porous borders with Iran, Turkey and Syria would allow smuggling of weapons and guerilla fighters from all around the radicalized Arab world?

Who could have predicted that such practices as firing missiles at crowds of demonstrators, riddling civilian cars with bullets at checkpoints and flattening buildings in an endless for militants might produce thousands of civilian casualties?

Who, indeed? Why, we had NO IDEA that these things, and many more, would come to pass! :puke:

15. there is NOTHING about this on the cables now
earlier, CNN reported about the sabotage but did not mention the entire country losing power.

you'd think that would be pretty big news whatever COUNTRY it was but, bushco does NOT like bad news about the glorious victory for a FREE Iraq...

the story is gone.
