Charlotte, NC and bumper stickers
For the 2000 election, all you could see around Charlotte, NC was * bumper stickers and flags. It was horrible. I am seeing less and less of them and more Kerry stickers! It has been awesome! Mr. Arnheim even mentioned today how he isn't seeing nearly the amount of * stickers.

It's happening, folks. People are waking up. They are waking up slowly but the war in Iraq and the job situation are starting to take their toll.

We just have to get people to the polls!

I just wanted to post to let you guys know that if I am seeing lots of Kerry stickers here, then there is hope. * doesn't own this state!!!!

1. Here in Raleigh
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 07:32 PM by mmonk
I've been going up Oberlin St. for quite awhile every week. For a good while, it was bush yard signs and SUV's w/"W" stickers. About the last two weeks, the street has been transformed into 1 bush sign and blocks and blocks of Kery/Edwards signs. It makes me feel better.

2. I'm seriously wondering if Kerry will get at least 45% of NC vote
I'm thinking that he won't take the state but I think that it will be a tighter fight for NC than everyone is thinking.

3. The Kerry yard signs are sprouting up like mushrooms here in Asheville
Edited on Mon Sep-13-04 07:41 PM by wishlist
Every week I see more new ones. Today I saw 10 for Kerry (and more for other Dems too) just in one small neighborhood area and none for shrub unlike four years ago when all I saw in the same area was one for Gore and one for shrub. I also saw zero shrub bumper stickers today but several for Kerry. The flag stickers are also almost nonexistent.

I have visited there several times and have always felt very welcomed. I hope that the fine folks there will vote Kerry.

8. North Asheville is low on Bush signs this time
I drive down Kimberley all the time and in 2000 every house had a * sign.......none so far. My Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker is on its way and I can't wait to get it on the car!

9. Sweet! It's the little signs that give me hope
We need to keep this type of stuff out there. We need to remind folks who may not notice this. How can you lose hope when you see signs like this?

I think that once the mountains start, the "real" news ends. It's beautiful country but it is very conservative.

4. This is good news. I have stopped paying attention
to polls, especially the ones that have Shrub leading. I simply do not believe it. The Bushbots and Bushettes are going to be very surprised in November. Also I am only going to get my news on the internet. That seems to be the only place to get real news. I do watch CBS evening news and most time News Hour.

6. asjr, I know what you mean
I can't believe the polls for three reasons:

1. I hear so many former * voters who say they are voting for Kerry
2. I see less and less signs of support for *
3. I see the pictures from Kerry rallies and * rallies and there is no comparison!

How in the world can these polls be right if I'm sitting in the middle of * country and I am seeing less and less * support???

I refuse to watch the news anymore. I watch the weather channel and that's about it.

7. Here In Chapel Hill...
I have been eating lunch several days a week at Whole Foods. Most days I eat in my truck, and I have noticed a huge number of Pro-Kerry/Edwards stickers, and an even larger number of "Bush Lied, People Died" and other anti-Bush decals. Some days it seems that the majority of cars in this parking lot have at least one of these stickers. I know that conventional wisdom dictates that this should be the norm in "liburl" Chapel Hill, but it nevertheless fails to put big smile on my face!

10. Is Chapel Hill "liburl"? I didn't know that NC had any liberal
cities in the state. ;)

I love seeing Kerry stickers and I also smile when I see them. It's like someone is saying, "In your face, *!"

I love it. Love it, love it, love it!!!

i've got to say, having lived for 4 years in both Asheville and Chapel Hill, Asheville is much more liberal than Chapel Hill. Perhaps un-noticed by the Raleigh-dalai lamas insofar as we're so far west. I can't go back to CH.

19. Durham NC is waaay liberal.
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 12:09 AM by Lex
Tonight in Durham at 7pm I walked out of my office to my car in the parking lot, and out of the 12 cars left in the parking lot 4 of them were sporting Kerry/Edwards bumperstickers.

Lots and lots of yard signs. Practically nothing with W 04 on it.

Durham County is always a Dem county in local, state and national elections.

22. Asheville seems to be very liberal
The times that I've gone I've been very impressed with the people there. When I went to the Over the Rhine concert last Oct., there was a group on the square protesting the war. I felt right at home.

I live in Chester County, which is repuke central. Well, there have been lots of Kerry bumper stickers around the area. I was thrilled to park beside another van with a Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker at my daughter's soccer practice yesterday.

31. I am afraid not - I've never served in the military
I took the name from Joe Strummer's first band. The name of the band comes from the address of the squat where he "lived" while trying to get established as a musician. The name reminds me of a time when people were hungry for a change in the direction of the establishment and the government (sorta like now)...Sorry for the long answer to a short question! :)

The division at Ft. Campbell is the 101st Air Bourne (Air Assault) Division.

The true origins of your username is a bit more interesting! :)

14. We're on a cross-country trip and drove from Bristol, TN
to Hendersonville, NC yesterday.

In Bristol, I've seen one W sticker and one Kerry-Edwards.

Used to be very lopsided in Bristol for Republicans/ RWingers.

Also in Asheville and Hendersonville, didn't see many of either kind of sticker, but I believe we saw more Kerrys.

27. Yeah, Bristol is full of good ole boys
just chomping at the bit to vote for *. As their jobs disappear, they start to come around a bit. I think that's why there just aren't as many * stickers here. This area has lost a lot of textile jobs to overseas competitors.

I'd be too scared, frankly. I'm wondering if there is still a solid base of support for Kerry but people are afraid. Some repubs are scary and pretty darn unstable.

18. My Asheville street
...has at least 5 K/E signs. None for Bush. I have seen one B/C bumper sticker, compared to 20 or more for K/E.

Asheville is a lock for Kerry, but the surrounding counties are anyone's guess. Lots of fundies live in the outlying areas who, in general, are good people. They'll probably go 60/40 for Dubya.

Our group is working on voter turnout, registration, etc. I'm planning to drive people to the polls next month for early voting, then on to November 2nd for my Election Day rounds. I can hardly wait.

36. actually, I've been encouraged by
the number of yard signs on my way home from work in Atlanta. We even have them in my subdivision near Tucker! I love the house with the Support Our Troops/American flags/and Kerry/Edwards yard signs. Goes along with my Semper Fi (for my Marine son) and my Kerry/Edwards bumper sticker. I see lots of bumper stickers in the parking lot of my gym in Tucker and many on 1-85 on my way downtown in the morning.

By a realtor, about a month ago. I counted about 6 K/E stickers, 3 anti-war or other anti-* sticker and 1 * sticker...

I'll be voting there this year, moving down at the end of this month. I plan on spending October trying to help with the campaign. I hope NC is in play...
