A question about wingnuts.
While reading Atrios a little earlier about Tom Coburn, who wants there to be a death penalty for doctors who perform abortions, and who sterilized a 20 year old woman without her consent, and who is the Republican candidate for Senate from Oklahoma, I got to wondering. Are there any Democrats that even approach this level of fringe lunacy on the left side? And I am not talking about the "Vince Foster" urban myths, that kool-aid drinking mouth breathers enjoy forwarding to people around the web. What I mean is, are there any Democrats that, on the record, call for the embrace of Communism as our government, or Socialism as our economic system, or that call for forced abortions, or a special tax on white people for slavery reparations?

Or, is this level of craziness just confined to the the right hand side of the floor?

1. nah, the far right is always crazier than the far left
although the far left has its share of loonies. I'm convinced that the fascist mentality deserves a chapter in the next DSM, it really is a sickness.

The greatest danger to any democracy has always been from the right, and there are no exceptions. This is what we need to keep in mind.

2. pretty much
Anyone that leftist whacko will usually end up joining the socialist workers party or any of the other "free to assemble as outlined by the bill of rights" political parties

Republicans just don't care who they get to vote for them. It's just about the cattle to them.

3. There's always some nut for every persuation.
The difference is right-wing nut are supported by the state and national GOP party machine. They are part of the mainstream party leadership. They get elected to office.

The left-wing nuts define the fringe. Nobody takes them seriously. They can't even get themselves to be heard - much less get any control.
