What's the deal? MSNBC, CNN, Fox using the same camera
to cover the 9/11 ceremonies? All the images, cutaways, etc. were EXACTLY the same all these channels which suggests only one camera was used.

Folks, we are seeing an organized use of propaganda here with a complicit media. Chimpy is certainly trying to use the memories of 9/11 to get him "reelected" and the networks are helping him.

1. since i live across the street from WTC...
...i can tell you that there are a zillion media/television trucks parked around the site, in front of the WFC, etc. it's not just one media crew.

4. Explain why the same images are being aired.
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 08:16 AM by Lone_Wolf
There might be some local cameras there for local coverage, but what is being aired by the mass media is coming from one camera.

5. i'm not the producer, but...
i reckon the powers-that-be only let camera's set up in certain locations. i have no explanation as to why different networks seem are showing the same shots at the same time, as you report. all i can say is that every network and gobs of local stations have their own trucks on-site...i can see'em, and they get in my way when i go up the bike path along west street.

also, at this point it's no big surprise or revelation that the networks "pool" for certain big events. much of that is simply practical. they can't have hundreds of cameras down in the pit during a memorial service. i don't think i need to explain why.

i think there is often media complicity with those in power. i just think you are picking the wrong example to hammer home your point. the piling on over the document font issue is more pertinent, as that feeding frenzy conveniently misses the essential point - that white house has not denied the substance of the docs, and in fact, the WH handed out the docs themselves.

7. Sorry, but the pooling theory doesn't work
Pooling is done to save resources. Fox, MSNBC, and CNN have enough resources so they don't need to pool them together. Now if I organized the event, I would make certain all the major networks had enough room to place there cameras and crew... so logistics shouldn't be an issue here either.

Face it, somebody is carefully controlling the images that a majority of Americans will see. This is a carefully staged photo op for Shrub to help him get reelected.

8. So you have all four images in front of you
And are able to do a point by point comparison? Or are you flipping from channel to channel? Whether or not they are all using the same feed or not they are all in the same area, so isn't there the possibility you are just blending them together?

10. They were all from the same camera
I was flipping channel to channel, but these images were not blended from similar images from similar vantage points.

For example, I highly doubt that all the networks independently decided to focus the same girl singing and then at the exact same moment switch over to an image of the American flag. Not likely at all.

This was the same camera.

9. they are only allowing ONE camera down in the pit
with the families is the way I see it. 'repect' (gag). (but I agree that this is a GRIEF-A-THON for the chimp's benefit)

the cable whores are singing the IRAQ IS THE WAR ON TERROR song and praising brave commander bunnypants for his heroic leadership ad nauseum........

12. Okay... explain this
Why did they all show split screens at the same time with the ceremonies in NYC and the Crawford Hillbillies on the White House South Lawn?

This was a White House PR Photo op disguised as a "news" event.

3. All 9/11 memorials and all the pics from 9/11/01 emphasize AWOL's failure
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 08:11 AM by bushisanidiot
to protect us that day.

Had he been a true leader, he would have LEAD! He went AWOL once again on 9/11/01. He has failed at every job he ever had and his greatest failure was that day.

So let the repukes try to "cash in" on 9/11. They are shooting themselves in the foot by emphasizing the greatest failure any president of the united states has EVER committed.

6. and... ABC, NBC, CBS, NY1
this is just insane. will be stop the country EVERY year and trot out the grief again and again?

as for the single camera, it's pretty clear that they only wanted one crew down in the 'pit' with the families.

but, what little I could watch on the cables, this is a CHIMPFESTIVAL designed to boost his numbers. if i hear one more cablewhore utter the phrase 'defining moment' or 'transformed his presidency' I will be ill.

it's disgusting.

11. Sure He Will
>>>this is just insane. will be stop the country EVERY year and trot out the grief again and again?>>>>

As long as it serves his purposes. It also fits nicely with both his and Cheney's comments about it "happening again" if they don't get re-elected. Supposedly his Saturday radio address is going to be made available to the networks, and I'll bet he'll say it again: "Let's not let the horror that these poor people experienced EVER happen in this great country again. Let us use the resolve that we found in ourselves this terrible day three years ago to WIN THE WAR ON TERROR once and for all. God bless America." People will eat it up, especially with the memorial service as backdrop.

Always take advantage of national tragedy and the personal grief of thousands. Rule One in the Bush Election Playbook.

I tried watching some of the WTC memorial but couldn't for several reasons, one of which was just knowing how it was going to be exploited -- yet again -- for political gain.

13. he did the radio address from the Oval Office with...
you guessed it... GRIEVING FAMILIES as his backdrop!

he called today "PATRIOT DAY" but what it really is is:

"OH YES THE WAR IN IRAQ IS TOO PART OF MY GLORIOUS WAR ON TERROR AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU OTHERWISE DAY"

14. Patriot Day....
... sorry, but I have problems with it.

Where were all these great displays of patriotism before 9/11? Where were all the gigantic flags hoisted on cranes along highways and the Pledge of Allegiance recited in classrooms? How often did most houses fly the flag? Two, maybe three, times a year if people were paying attention to the calendar. Where was all the support for the military, with the cute little yellow "Support Our Troops" and red, white, and blue "God Bless America" ribbons smacked on the backs of cars and pinned to the lapels? Where were all the T-shirts, etc., honoring police and firefighters? Have we suddenly gained an apprecation for this country and everything it stands for, or is this just another way to flex our collective muscle for the rest of the world? With Bush at the wheel, I truly don't know.

If we were all truly "patriots," shouldn't we have been showing this respect for our country, troops, and public servants all along? Perhaps on this count alone I can see the need for this day, but there are just too many other subtexts that I cannot ignore.

Tony Snow (subbing for O'Lielly) last night had on an Illinois congresswoman who had the absolute courage to vote against the Patriot Day resolution. (Hers was the lone dissenting vote.) She said that only once in the entire resolution (which was long) did it mention the 9/11 victims. The rest was just a big high-five to the Bush administration.

We should always have a deeply ingrained respect for our nation and those who serve it. But Patriot Day, to me, is just another cynical exploitation of this ideal for personal and political gain. I will have no part of it. I will respect and honor the 9/11 dead -- but on my own terms, not Bush's.
