DU is starting to royally piss me off...
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 01:43 AM by Melodybe
Honestly, I am so sick and fucking tired of all this negative nonsense. Some call it the reality of the situation and I say fuck that!

I am working my ass off and people are coming around. Sure there ARE some that will not listen, but it is our duty to find and inform those that will.

We have the truth and the world on our side and people around here are acting like Bush is about to be sworn in for the second time.

I have posted three times tonight about people here focusing on nothing but the media's bull shit!

My answer TURN THAT SHIT OFF!

Get out there and tell others to turn that shit off!

The Neilsons are bullshit! My step mother in law got a Neilson box from someone on one of her Christian sites. They are catering to the repubs, I don't know anyone that hasn't tuned into the Daily Show at least once, yet there ratings don't reflect that.

People are smarter than we give them credit for. People are capable of being better than we think they are. If we keep expecting the worst from our fellow Americans, that is exactly what we will get.

DU has been nothing but doom and gloom lately and doom and gloom is all people here respond too. I am considering not coming back here until after Nov, if everyone here would rather complain than actually do something, I have no time for you.

In one day of phone calls I was able to get both the unlisted phone #s for Michael Moore's Lawyer and Dog Eat Dog productions. I am getting together a few free showings of F9/11 at Ole Miss. If it is possible to get the 7th most conservative Campus in the country to allow us to show F9/11 than things are not as bad as they could be.

People here need to get out there and talk to people, register people to vote, do a freeway blog, write letters to the editor, call your Senators, all is never lost, as long as men die, the fight for liberty will never end.

DU seems to be all about us defeating ourselves lately and I will have no part in that.

1. You go! You're absolutely right
My hat's off to you for gettin an F9/11 showing at Ole Miss. That is significant, it means there have got to be some cracks in the wall.

P.S. Don't abandon DU.

I contribute money and I talk to people I've never met before, I can do more I'm sure but it's a start!

We have to ignore the few who still buy the kool aid
from CNN and company, truly watching that crap is not good for people, but they still do it.

So keep your chin up and continue working the way you are... don't let the defeatists bring you down... personally I am looking forwards to some celebration on November 2nd

3. Good on you for working to bring F/911 to Ole Miss.

Trent Lott must be rolling over in his grave. (Oh, wait, he's alive, it's that damn rug he wears. . .)

for your efforts!

DU is just a board; you can't take it too seriously. Due to its anonymity, people who don't have the nation's best interests at heart are free to post things here meant to depress, and hurt the spriti of those, like you, who do have their nation's best interests at heart.

Some days here are better than others; but on the best days, we still have to sift through the crap to find the things that strengthen and renew our spirits.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, and that your F/911 showing is a great success!

:loveya:

6. Use the Ignore function and save your time and sanity.

I just figured out I need to start doing it again. Actually, I meant the Hide Threads function but putting some people on Ignore will be a good thing, too.

7. Good points
I agree that whining won't solve anything. We need to get out, volunteer, register new voters, make phone calls, etc. Anything to get the vote out.

8. Lately?

I abandoned DU for several weeks becuase I had to get away from all the negativity. I mean, on an average day, I could see a dozen threads about why CNN, et al suck, and the substance of those threads was nothing but repeating what had been broadcast on CNN that inspired the rant in the first place. Certainly I understand the need to rant occasionally. What I don't understand is why *this* place is such a focus for disseminating all the misinformation I could get if I ever actually watched mass-market media. I don't need that crap in my life. It doesn't educate me, make me wiser, or anything positive. There is no point.

*Not* watching this garbage is not hard. Some say they want to keep track of the opposition and so they can't not watch. Bull. One can get the flavor of the opposition from a number of sources that do not require listening to these idiots that people allow to make them feel so thoroughly defeated already.

Hell, I live in a state that has zero chance of supporting Kerry. So what. I am out there every single day, at times skirting the rules of my job, to educate people and promote Kerry. I get almost no positive responses. But, I maintain. If I do not, I may as well admit right now that I, not my candidate, am a loser that deserves the crappy government I get.

In short, I agree. I'm sick and damn tired of this negativity.

14. "disseminating
all the misinformation I could get if I ever actually watched mass-market media." Yep. :)

I know what you mean. So much passive information-gathering (TV and radio), so little active (reading). Reading is practically all some time-scarce people like me have  !

9. Take heart Melodybe,
not all of us are doom and gloom. That isn't to say that we're not worried or frustrated sometimes, which is normal, because we're only human and this is a very emotional time and it's difficult to be positive all the time.

This isn't my first election and it won't be the last. There's a lot at stake in THIS particular election and that's why everybody is wringing their hands. This is the first election for some DUers and they really don't have anything to measure it against. Believe me, this campaign season is mild compared to some political shenanigans I've seen in the past.

The only thing you can do is just what you're doing. Nobody can expect you to do any more than that. Some things are just beyond our control so we should just flow with it and not "push the river."

We do our part and let the universe handle the rest. The best man will win and we know who that is!:)

11. I suppose
that replying is incautious, but you seem earnest.

You should look, maybe, to see patterns.

Knowing these patterns, perhaps there is potentially a way of actually dealing with the problem.

I realize that this may seem like gibberish, but I wouldn't want to get your thread locked.

12. That's how you win
And you just keep working because you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you didn't do everything you could do to get Bush out of office. You're doing it for your own sense of duty and patriotism, the outcome doesn't matter, the work matters. There's lots of people right by your side, know that. Thanks for what you're doing, that's going to make all the difference in the long run.

13. No MelodyBe! Please don't disappear...
We need more kicks :kick:in the booty bootay.

I have lived through around a dozen presidents and have been cognizant and able to do something since I cast my first vote for Carter.

Do you realize the odds against that guy? But he won.

Americans will surprise you. You have to keep plugging, and remember that the Repugs have worked very hard to get the whiners and the lightweights to give up. These DUers who are all doom and gloom simply should not watch mainstream news, but they insist, the way we sometimes "have to" pick at a scab.

I see my state, Tennessee, as a swing state. And the most support I have seen for * is in a fairly affluent subdivision. No one will see those signs but those in that class. (And their signs resemble tacky car lot ads to me.)

A few miles down the road, in a heavy tourist area, Kerry/Edwards signs circle the public square. Democracy is alive and well.

Stay with us, melodyB. You are one of the treasures here and we need your energy.

So quit it. And all you damned whiners quit it. If you're leaving the US, go.... and stop bringing down those of us who have decided to stay and fight the Enemy BFEE.
:P

16. Starting?
There are some elements here who have been pissing me off since the primaries stated.

But, even though I miss some of the people who had a lot to contribute back then who have disappeared along with some of the more obnoxious clowns, I am still able to ignore the doom and gloom coming from various quarters.

Aside from the instigators, shitstirrers, moles, closet Freepers, closet Kerry haters, and other flotsam and jetsam around here, there are a few people who firmly believe that every silver lining must have a cloud.

But, none of them are important enough to get upset about. They are only electrons on a message board, and apparently do not have the energy to interfere with the campaign in meatspace.

Kerry on!

22. I've seen the change first hand
I live in a small town in a heavily repug area of a heavily repug state and I'm seeing a change in people's attitudes here.

1. I cannot remember the last Bush/Cheney bumper sticker I saw...lots of support our troops yellow ribbon magnet/stickers but no Bush/Cheney crap anymore

2. Funny thing happened this week...local convenience stores all have this stupid president gum...one for bush and one for kerry... so you can buy the one you support. At one store the bush one was completely gone in half a day so I asked the clerk (typical working poor btw) if people thought buying gum meant Bush would get that many votes. She said "I hope not!" Then she rambled on about "anybody being better than him" and needing "to get him out of there." Finally she said that one person bought all the Bush gum at once and that nobody else had really been interested. Made my day.

The tide is turning. The media doesn't get it but they don't need to because they don't vote.
