Average number of Americans killed per day has been rising slowly but steadily since May. At this rate, 10,000 dead by 2013 easily possible.

1. If we're in Iraq, in force, in 2013
the number will be three times that.

2. That was my first estimate as well
...but that's intuitive, knowing that these conflicts have a beginning, middle and end. The middle is always worse than the beginning. The end is unsustainable.

The slow burn rate reflecting an attrition strategy on both sides is sustainable from the view of the corporate elites. What did Herr Rumsfeldt say? "Americans are willing to sustain casualties." What kind of nonsense is that? They are definitely into body count and attempting to justify an attrition strategy.
