NPR has a fund drive going in my area
I called their pledge line and explained exactly why they would get no more money from me. Their pro * right wing slant lost any possibility of donations from me. Forever.

They were a bit taken aback.

F*&k 'em!

2. If you're in the Bay Area, I suggest giving to KALW.
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 04:32 PM by PeaceProgProsp
They have a tiny budget, yet they produce some of the best local programming around, including Your Call with Laura Flanders, and Roman Marr's Invisible Ink. They also have a show called Up Front with Sandip Roy which is very good. They're the only Bar Area NPR affiliate carrying Tavis Smiley.

They're also looking for money to help support more local and state reporting, which is really the key to breaking the back of ME and ATC.

Seriously, give them money and you won't regret it. Just tell them you want the money to go to their locally funded programs and that they're not allowed to use it to pay licenses for anything that's produced by NPR or PRI.

3. Alternatives for your hard-earned dough:
Democratic Underground

Pacifica Radio

Free Speech Radio News

Common Dreams.org

Truth Out

Online Journal

Voting projects:
www.verifiedvoting.org
www.blackboxvoting.org
www.votersunite.org

There are a lot of great alternative media trying to tell the truth. Most of them depend on free-will donations rather than corporate ads or sponsors. Our support is vital to them.

Plenty of people will support NPR and PBS no matter what we do.

4. KALW has the potential to reach a lot of people, and SF would
be better informed if they could take some audience away from KQED.

I certainly wouldn't give any money to anyone bigger than KALW, but if you want to get a lot of bang for your buck (and if you want to reach a lot of people in the middle of the political spectrum with useful information), I'd certainly consider a donation to KALW as being a well-spent dollar.

It would also be great if some of their locally-produced shows could go national.
