Randi is having some trouble with Al Franken today?
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 02:42 PM by Must_B_Free
Too bad she isn't a little more professional. She is practically begging for at least a reprimand. I hope she doesn't get herself fired...

I guess she is ticked at Al for being civil to Bob Barr and Al apparently had words wih her for the way she treated Bar at the Convention when she had a girl go over and ask him how many wives he's had.

Wow - she really is immature to be in the position she's in.

So apparently she has written Al a letter and was poking fun at him in the beginning of the show.

I'm glad I wasn't her husband - I'm sure that must have been a real joy ride...

3. Al Franken did handle Bob Barr wih kid gloves
I can see her problem with Al playing too nice with Barr. I was sort of disgusted that he let Barr come off as some kind of "moderate".

10. I'm a fan of Franken's show...
... but do feel that he's far too gentle with his Republican "friends." Al appears to take the New Democrat approach of going after "undecided" and swing voters, rather than staking a solid claim to liberal and progressive values.

4. Certain posters don't like Randi - they listen to her all the time
but they complain and whine about her shows. I can't figure that out!
If you haven't anything nice to say, don't say anything. Better yet, if you don't like the show, turn the channel!

if you don't like me complaining about Randi's ego issues, then don't read my posts...

14. Your constant complaints about RR are not constructive --
when we finally have a liberal radio station, you complain. You have complained a lot lately?

I don't like Howard Stern, but I don't whine and fuss about it. I just don't listen to him - his program is not my style of "entertainment". Apparently RR is not your style, so turn it off and stop posting threads whining about it.

:eyesroll:

The dumbest slogan in the history of slogans.

I actually hate all slogans that end with "shut up" or some variation thereof.

13. I never said shut up - just suggested the poster ignore RR is
she annoys him. We finally get some liberal talking heads, and folks just a whine and moan. If her style offends, then shut the radio off or turn the station or something!

18. Well that's like saying
"If you don't like Bush then just move to another country or something.". Of course, on a much smaller scale, but the logic is the same. Can't we have an open discussion about our issues, our talking heads, our effectiveness, etc? We don't need to be the left-wing equivalent of the GOP echo chamber do we?

I don't particularly dig Randy because I don't think she's a very effective spokeswoman for our cause. Her strength ends with her tone and abrasiveness, but not in the strength of argumentation. She's not even as well informed as she claims to be -- if she only read LBN on DU every day before her show she'd be a lot more up to date than she is. Like, for example, yesterday, a caller mentioned the "forgery" accusations about the TANG documents and she just sort of laughed it off, clearly not ever having heard of this (and it was like 6:30 PM, I had known about the accusations from DU since, I dunno, noon).

I still listen to her -- for a few reasons... One, what else am I going to listen to in this time slot? Sean Hannity? Mark Levinne? (WABC in NYC). Two, I do think she has made a bunch of good points that I have learned from, and sometimes I hone my own arguments by observing the weakness of hers. Three, she interests me -- she's an interesting psychological specimen.

But the bottom line is, criticizing our spokespeople is one of the most constructive things we can do. We're not the fucking military and we're not Kerrybots and I'm not a liberal because I'm "loyal" to any movement but because I have a brain and that's how it thinks. And I contribute my thoughts to the ether out there, whether they be critical or not.

And that's what the original poster did as well.

24. Wrong analogy - Randi is trying to report and uncover the facts
and has been doing so for more years than most have been posting here. She is on our side - just cause the poster is irritated by her style doesn't mean he has to whine about the messages, he should just turn the station. Lots of folks love her.

* on the other hand is an evil, RW, neo-con bent on destroying the nation I love. No comparison there, rather a weak attempt.

15. Actually, I've had people telling me to "give her a listen"
and when I say I just don't care for her style, they keep at me to "give her another chance".

You see, there are a lot of control issues here, and people thinking we all need to think the same way.

Nothing to "figure out".

Kanary, who *did* change the station, and was told to "keep listening to her".

7. Randi has impulse control/anger management issues....
making it hard not to jump to conclusions or to hold her tongue. Not hard for me to recognize, because I do too!

But, yes, it is going to bite her back if she can't control it.

11. As I heard it . . .
Bob Barr went on Franken's show to say that Randi had "sandbagged" him during the convention. Al apparently didn't know the facts, and agreed with Barr that it was very bad of Randi to "sandbag" poor Bob. We all know what a media neophyte Mr. Barr is, and how could he have possibly known that Randi Rhodes might not just give him the "friendly" he was looking for?

Randi, in her own defense, said that Barr was walking down Radio Row, looking for someone with some time to give over to him so he could bloviate on about whatever he wanted to bloviate about. He sat down with Randi, whose first question to him was how many times he'd been married. This question was apparently so offensive to Mr. Barr, the poor thing, that he stomped off in a huff.

And now, days later, poor Bob still hasn't gotten over the mean treatment that Randi dished out to him, that he had to go to Al and whine some more about how he was "sandbagged."

It's like Miss Eva the dominatrix complaining that her customers just see her as a sex object.

12. ...this sounds about right
Randi asks for no quarter, and gives none. If Barr was ignorant enough to go sit at her table he deserves whatever hard time she gave him.

19. I hear it in the convention coverage
I didn't catch get the part about him coming to her.

As I recall, she saw him and said "hey - there's Bob Barr". Then she asked her helper to go over and ask him how many wives he's had.

He said, "I'm not going to play Michael Moore games", and stormed off.

Personally, I thought it was pretty tastless to go after someone on the basis of failed marriages. It's like making fun of someone because of their race, religion or a handicap.

But if that's the face that you feel best represents progressives, then I guess you're entitled to promote that type of behaviour.

23. Failed marriages would be a "tasteless" tactic to take
Except that Mr. Barr made the centerpiece of his career the idea of "family values" and was one of the co-sponsors of the Defense of Marriage Act. In addition, he was foursquare against a woman's right to reproductive freedom, yet in a sworn affidavit, Mr. Barr's first wife testified in their divorce that he had pressured her to have an abortion and had paid for the procedure.

Now, someone who made his career oppressing some of the most vulnerable members of our society is asked one pertinent question in regard to his actions during that career, and he flies off the handle so badly that he's still smarting from it days later. So he goes on the Franken show to whine about how mean that ol' Randi Rhodes was to him.

But I understand that turnabout is no longer considered fair play, so I will have to concede your point that it is "tasteless" to ask the champion of family values how many times he's been married. How simply awful it must have been for Mr. Barr to be so delicate in the rough-and-tumble world of politics.

Stopped listening for a week when he did a Begala with his dittohead who said: "Do you honestly think Kerry can be as good as W on National Security?" Franked started stammering: "Werll, ugh, almost - I mean, he may have made some questionable judgements on the Pershings but....yeah.
