is everyone paying $5 a gallon for MILK ?
or is this some NYC/Brooklyn thing that I just didn't notice until $ got a whole lot tighter?

of course, limes were 6/$1 which made we wonder how anyone can make a profit growing LIMES...

but I digress, fresh limeade is cheaper than milk but just doesn't work with a warm corn muffin...

9. Yup.... $4.79-4.99 in Denver for organic; slightly less for regular
And it sucks-- there was supposedly an overproduction not long ago, so what gives? Price controls?

... which is up just slightly from $5.98/gal which I was paying a couple of months ago. Frankly, we don't drink enough milk anymore for it to be that big of a deal.

22. With three kids and and an elderly. I buy lots of milk and 4.69 a gal

The people who are telling you milk is bad are the same people telling you war is right. I don't believe nothing the government says anymore. They are paid to do studies. One day milk is bad, the next day its good. All things in moderation. My great Uncle, one of the best doctors of all time who actually started the birthing centers, said moderation and exercise. He lived to be 96, delivered 9000 babies and never sent a statement. He was educated at Emory and was one of the best MD's Georgia has ever known.

The man was treating patients the day he died. He drank milk. He was fit. HE smoked a cigar once in a great while and had a glass of Beer once in a while. He ate a great deal of vegatables, not a lot of meat, fish, and had a routine schedule of eating, exercise and slept when he was not on call. I trust his judgement.I am not that disciplined but I don't think everything is black and white. Moderation...Key to everything ! Socrates said it before him but I never heard till he said it.

16. Advertised for $1.99 last weekend ... but is usually $2.99
around here.

If I can't get it cheaper than $2.50 I just don't buy it. I bet stores have figured out that with these high prices, they sell less milk. I wonder if they had to throw away a lot of milk because people stopped buying.

The big dairies that used the stuff can't make as big of profits at the previous price, the price of milk goes up.

but then again I don't drink milk at all. When I do need it for cooking or baking, I buy just enough for the recipe - the little bit left over gets dumped because it won't get used.

28. I pay $5 a gallon for goat milk...
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 03:11 PM by Bruce McAuley
Since we milked goats in the past, I've developed a taste for it, and the wife makes the worlds BEST chevre(goat cheese). I pay the price rather than drink the store bought stuff, since these goats are local.
It's WELL worth it to me.
Yum, yum!
By the way, Moo Juice goes for around $3.50 a gallon here.

Bu that's at the overpriced supermarket chains. Still about $3.70 at the Smart & Final warehouse store.

All groceries are high here. Probably same in NYC.
