Assume the documents ARE Forgeries

If the documents are forgeries, what previous allegations are destroyed?

ZERO.

If the documents are real, what new info do they prove?

1. Bush defied a direct order.

If he was given a direct order to report, wouldn't there be other documentation floating around somewhere to that effect?

Yesterday's Press Gaggle transcript includes a footnote, citing the Killian memo which claims Bush* was "working with his commanders to comply with that order."

If the memo is a forgery, the White House's evidence disappears!

2. Your problem is you're thinking about this logically

The "documents are forgeries" thing has nothing to with logic, it's all about appearances and impressions. If THIS part of the AWOL story can be shown as ginned up, then ALL criticism about AWOL is discredited. And they don't even have to be conclusively shown as forgeries, they just need to muddy the waters enough to give people doubts.

If that be the case, don't you think CBS is going to be doing some heavy investigating to find out why they were given fakes? Where do you think that's going to lead?

Only the authenticity of one of the documents has been questioned (and falsely, IMHO). The CYA memo that Killian kept in his own files.

The other documents are not in question. It's the other documents that prove he missed his physical and was suspended as a result.

So it's 'assume DOCUMENT is a forgery' not 'DOCUMENTS'.

That point has already been submerged by the impressive amount of bullshit the Bush machine excreted last night.
