1st NFL weekend on CBS-Heavy promotion of "60 Minutes"?
As many here know CBS's 60 Minutes will have a report this coming Sunday in which Ben Barnes admits that he was asked to pull strings to get W into the TANG Champagne unit and did.

It just hit me that this is the first full weekend of the NFL season (starts Thursday night on ABC Colts vs. Patriots) and we could see heavy promotion of this new 60 Minutes report. Usually as they come out of every commercial (the FEW that are on NFL telecasts) the play by play guy reads the promo ~"Tonight on CBS...." which will lead with 60 Minutes and then.....(US Open?).

This is the PERFECT audience to finally find out the real story of the "Crawford cowboy" and the silver spoon he has been feeding from his whole life. I just hope that it isn't tuned out as just more re-fighting of the Vietnam War.

We'll see.

1. I doubt it, it will probably be hushed.

2. Salon says the Barnes piece will air on a Wednesday.
I'm confused as to when this is actually airing.

I don't know for sure. Salon makes the claim about it airing next Wednesday, but Josh Marshall says it's Sunday the 12th.

From the Salon piece:

The former speaker of the Texas state House, Democrat Ben Barnes, now admits he pulled strings to get Bush his coveted guard slot, and says he's "ashamed" of the deed. "60 Minutes" will air an interview with Barnes next Wednesday, but George H.W. Bush denounced Barnes' claims in an interview aired on CBS. "They keep saying that and it's a lie, a total lie. Nobody's come up with any evidence, and yet it's repeated all the time," the former president said, in what could just as well describe the playbook for the Swift Boat Veterans ads.

Josh Marshall has this:

A number of readers have written in to ask why the interview with Ben Barnes did not appear this evening on 60 Minutes.

I've done no new reporting on this (nor heard anything new on this) since I wrote about it last Thursday. But my understand was always that the interview was slated to run on Sunday, September 12th. And I assume that's still the case.

See why I'm confused? I have no idea when it will air.
