On Moving to Canada....Why? How? Thoughts?

I'm sure I must have missed similar posts, but I would love to hear thoughts about moving out of the country.
Hate to sound negative but the electronic voting machines are still poised to steal the election, people are still willing to be brain-washed by jingoistic slogans, and the media is still shilling for Republicans. How much worse can it get here when the takeover is complete? I don't even want to imagine it. I seriously want to take my children to grow up somewhere else. I don't want to raise them in the greed, commercialism and anti-intellectualism that's taken over our society.
I heard someone say it wouldn't be as easy as you think to move to Canada. Or perhaps Canada isn't all that much better than the US? Have any of you been thinking this way? Have you found any interesting or useful info on moving to Canada? What line of work would make it easier to be employed there? Is there anywhere you can homestead if you were willing to live off the land? Am I totally dreaming that escape could be so easy? Would the Canadians welcome us or want to send us packing back to the US?
I'm a Plan B kind of person and I'm in the mood to explore this. Anyone?
