The CEO of GM stated "Whats good for General Motors is good for America".

During a time where the peopel still had the upper hand and corporations had not yet learned how to controll the media entirely this may have had some merrit (not much). But these days the agenda of corporations and people differ wildy. It is not good for America to ship all the jobs over seas. It is good for corporations. It is not good for Americans to be fattened on addicting substances that erode our health at lower costs to corporations. It is not good for Americans to continue to support the oil industry. It is not good for Americans to allow our intellectual property be held ransom by corporations. It is not good for Americans for our health to be the basis of corporate profits.

We have new feudal lords rising in the world and if we do not vote them back to the dark ages we will have to fight them in the future.

9. Two Chairmen of General Motors

(Charlie Wilson and Alfred P Sloan) are credited with saying that what is good for America is good for General Motors and vice versa. I don't think it's a particularly good quote to support job retention or other modern issues. GM was the largest employer (unionized) at that time and jobs were not being exported yet. However arrogant, executives in the 50's were more likely to be focused on the economy doing well. Wish it were true today.

Today business policy is all "I I Me Me Mine". Not only is it disgusting, but it is very bad for the economy in the long run.

The version of the quote on the linked site may be from another occasion, or it may be conflated with Calin Coolidge's statement that "the business of America is business."

Actually that's NOT what Engine Charlie Wilson, GM president from 1941-1953, said. Wilson left GM to accept President Dwight D. Eisenhower's appointment as secretary of defense. At his Senate confirmation hearing, Wilson said: "For years, I thought what was good for our country was good for General Motors -- and vice versa."
