Question, wasn't McCaffrey Drug Czar under Clinton, if so does he lean to the left?

1. no
He does not lean to the left. And do a google search for the words McCaffrey and "highway of death" to be informed about him.

2. McCaffrey was strongly anti-Iraq-war
Acerbically so. Couldn't stand him as "drug czar" though.

Edited on Mon Aug-25-03 05:39 PM by Cush
We've stiffed NK for over year so we could go to Iraq, Afghanistan is crumbling. THe lessons are lost, Syria isn't acting any nicer, Iran isn't rolling over, NK has decided that they're going to be evil.

We didn't do enough in Afghanistan, we lost an opportunity.

Iraq: He might have had something, but why now? What about Al Qaeda? they're the bigger threat

18. Clark nails the WH on trying to link 9/11 and Saddam.
Press tried to get him to waffle, but Clark was resolute. (But calm, which is good.)

He came back from the break and said 'I'm General Barry McAffrey' and we're back with retired general Wesley Clark.' What's the deal?

Bill: "as a member of what party would you run?"

Clark: "Come on, look at what I've said, look at my stance on the issues, take a guess."

Clark: "It seems like the Armed Forces belong to the Republican party, why?"

Clark: "If I enter, it won't be because I view any of the other 9 as weak"

27. His response about being a Dem
Apparently as a military officer you are supposed to be non-partisan and I think the reason for not declaring his party affliation is that he would not reveal what his political affliation is if he decided not to run. That makes sense on why he has not said he was a Dem, but he pretty much told Bill Press to figure it out by listening to his views on the issues. Good enough for me.

Go Clark

30. He was pretty impressive, IMO...
He is setting the table to be a "uniter" - unlike the present occupant. His message will be that he would be a President for all the people. Could be very attractive message by the time this campaign is over.

32. But, but, but
being in the Military makes the Dems uncomfortable. People act like the Military is the sole property of the Republican Party.

Given some of the flames I've seen on the boards, it's no wonder that Clark would say the Repubs would welcome him and the Dems might not. That certainly seems to be the case around here. Never mind that he is progressive, smart, articulate and knowledgeable. He's in the military so there must be something evil about him.

Clark is not some evil guy. He's a liberal who had a career in the military. Military and liberal are not multually exclusive.

I'm one progressive who will support him if he runs.

33. Thank you!
...while it is not quite as good as seeing the General, your account is really appreciated. Well my child-of-the-sixties first reaction was...."A General!!!" Ah_but what a general. He once said that the Clinton WH had a that same knee-jerk reaction to his uniform, the ultimate power suit.

And yet, after Pepperbelly's news yesterday, I'm feeling as if he will not run. Can't say as I blame him or his wife. Here we are with a brilliant, caring man, and this morning brought me an eye full of a no-nothing, bash Clark thread. Praise Milosovich but ignore anything good about an American because they made a career in the US Army. And we are suppose to be the loyal opposition. There's not enough brain bleach in the world.
