NYC - The helicopters are so loud I don't think I can sleep
Anyone else? They are low and they just keep circling and circling. WHY?

32. Intimidation.
Sounds like they're trying to depress the number of protesters, through early arrests and a show of force.

6. Better get some earplugs.
They help muffle the sound so you can sleep. Used to use them when I lived in Santa Monica. The noise often went on all night.

21. plus they have the LRAD, that master blaster noise machine that can
be heard four blocks away. Supposedly 'professional' grade earplugs will help stifle that noise.

26. Earplugs aren't gonna do shit for LRAD, 150db of tight-cone directed sound
That kind of compression wave doesn't need ears to do damage. It'll go right through your skull, no problem. If you have eardrums, you'll hear whatever the guy pointing the LRAD wants you to hear, just fine. Extended exposure would even fuck up a stone deaf person.

This is an experimental weapon, and the protestors are the guinea pigs.

9. Nah it's been non-stop since I got home from work
I think it's just going to go on all week 24/7. So low and so loud, though. This is brutal already and it hasn't even started yet.

Bush will earn 8 million mortal enemies this week. They are saying commuters should allow one hour just to get out of Penn Station and up to the street.

13. Stef, we weren't going to vote for the bastard anyway.
But that one hour extra is going to engender a loathing that I pray extends to the congressional seats.

They could have booked the Javitts and bothered no one. But they had to have the Garden.

Some would have voted for him. I remember flyering for Hillary right there on election day and the hostility was incredible from some of them heading to the trains.

And I'll bet they just love him.

God, I love my new windows and new air conditioner. What a difference!

But I'm on the block just outside their designated area, judging by the detours that went the other day. You're just inside it. So I guess they're patrolling that area like crazy to make sure nothing explodes near a Republican. If the rest of us blow up, it's cool.

You may not be able to sleep, but gosh, you're safe. Sorta.

But this means there's like an extra mile of restricted access. As the offspring of retailers, all I can think is THOSE POOR STORES! Crippled for tax free week!

I despise people who are insensitive to retailers. Ever try to get overtime for your ninety hours when it's your own business and the state and city regard it as a personal cash cow since they gave all the tax breaks to the major corporations so they've got to make it up somehow?

Everyone who's marching: when you pass a small store, you go in and buy a little something.

It's so nice and peaceful here. I can't believe I don't hear it either.

But I'm serious. You're in the frozen zone. You're getting all their attention.

Just a matter of big corporate or teeny tiny corporate. It's a legal thing you have to do for taxes.
