Poll question: George Bush rants against trial lawyers because?
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 12:44 PM by Swede
In a speech yesterday he said he didn't care for trial lawyers.

I've added all of the above as suggested.

9. Mine too. It's called 'sour grapes'.
And since Texas didn't accept him, he had to join the TANG to avoid Nam.

12. That's my take on it
He's bitter about UT Austin not bending over for the Bush name. He was just too dumb to get in.

7. Because he wants to be the only one who can engage in frivoulous lawsuits.
A frivolous lawsuit IS after all, how he got his job.

10. Because his nephew George P. is a lawyer who just married a lawyer?
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/nation/9349820.htm?1c

President's nephew weds lawyer

George P. Bush met his bride while attending law school at the University of Texas at Austin. They began dating after Bush asked her if she wanted to join him in a round of golf.

<snip>

There is, of course, a big difference:

<snip>
This fall, George P. Bush will leave his position as an assistant to a federal judge in Dallas to join the Dallas office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he will work in corporate law. The firm is one of the world's largest and earns millions lobbying in Washington.
<snip>

He will be lobbying in Washington to make sure that the destruction of our economy, health care, Social Security, and corporate responsibility continues. And he'll defend those big, filthy rich corporation if they get caught defrauding the little people.

11. All of the above plus
UT Law turned him down (unlike Harvard and Yale, UT doesn't accept applications written in crayon).

Also, trial lawyers are usually Dems- well off to very wealthy ones at that, and contribute quite a bit of money, time and effort to Dem/liberal causes. This is actually probably the most important to the repubs.
