Ranks of Poor, Uninsured Rose in 2003, not much said about this

1. US media does not do issues that affect non-rich - at least not too often
:-)

2. No, not much said. The DEM party left poor folk out of the equation
many, many years ago.

Not much will be said about this on DU, either. There are a few of us who care about the issue. The rest ignore it and go back to sleep.

3. I'm afraid the Radicalized Moderate agrees
even if you and I might disagree about specific actions or issues.

Your are correct. And yes, I think that this thread will sink pretty damned quick.

Prove me wrong, DUers. Prove me wrong.

4. Honest to God, this is the response I heard on CNN
Both campaigns will be able to use some of the news from this report to bolster their arguments. The Bush campaign will point to the numbers which say more people are being helped by the government. I about fell off my chair when I heard that. So, Bush should be re-selected because more people are poverty-stricken and welfare dependent? What are they thinking!!!!!!

5. "welfare dependent"??
If you will remember, Clinton pretty much did away with welfare "as we know it".

There are waiting lists of *YEARS* to get subsidized housing.

Unless you have children, getting Medicaid is pretty much impossible.

Some of these people might be getting some food stamps. Other than that, good luck.

7. 40 million US in poverty, 45 mill without health insurance
These are disparate (and desperate) segments of the US population, as many of those living in poverty are children, elderly, minority. They qualify for Medicaid/Medicare
Those without health insurance are most likely the working poor, paycheck to paycheck folks.
it bugs me when shrub keeps talking about 'the eyerackee' people and their freedoms like he really cares when right here in this country this sort of shit is going on

Alas, I fear tom_paine is right, this thread will sink like a rock. Not sexy enough for the media or DU

12. What's really sad is that I'd bet that a higher % of the poor and
uninsured are working full time than ever before.

His program today is run by substitutes, but so far there's been an interesting piece about the effect of "the ad" on Kerry's ratings, etc.
