Nudity! Sex! Boy-on-Boy Torture!
Who cares that WaPo is releasing new videos, pictures, and reports of Abu Ghraib torture? Who cares about the intelligence report finding fault at the highest levels of the Pentagon? Who cares that Bush is in his hidey-hole while all this is going down? Who gives a shit, let's just keep talking about the Swift Boat Liars.

**************

Three Army generals said yesterday that an array of sometimes shocking detainee abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison came in part at the hands of more than two dozen military intelligence soldiers and civilian contractors, widening the scope of the international scandal as one Army general conceded that some of the acts qualified as torture.

In releasing an investigative report yesterday about the actions of the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, the generals acknowledged that chaos and confusion absorbed Abu Ghraib. Interrogators did not know the rules and thus flagrantly broke them. Detainees were questioned while naked, the CIA hid prisoners from international human rights groups, and detainees were left hooded and handcuffed in painful positions.

In sometimes agonizing detail, the generals detailed acts of sodomy, beatings, nudity, lengthy isolation, and the use of unmuzzled dogs in a sadistic game of making detainees urinate and defecate in fear.

"The abuses spanned from direct physical assault, such as delivering head blows rendering detainees unconscious, to sexual posing and forced participation in group masturbation," the Army report says. "At the extremes were the death of a detainee an alleged rape committed by a U.S. translator and observed by a female soldier, and the alleged sexual assault of an unknown female."

1. I agree.
Keep the swifties on page 42. We need to talk about the real news. If the real news won't do it, we must.

3. Kimchi
Kerry talked about it in his speech yesterday, and called for Rumsfeld's resignation but of course the speech wasn't broadcast on TV.

I've seen the list of media contacts posted before, but I can't find it now.

What infuriates me is the claim that there's no evidence of the interpreter raping some kid. Hersh said he watched the video!

6. I find myself hoping
that someone has the visual evidence and plans on releasing it closer to the election.

5. None of this will break through the larger media filter unless the visual
evidence they're sitting on is released.

7. Abu Ghraib? Which SBVT is that?

I know what you mean. It's going to play out longer whether we like or not I'm afraid.

9. i watched this unfold today, disheartened,
by lines like this one.

There were a few instances when torture was being used."

their demeanor while presenting this was pretty much one of, hey, shit happens. they shoulda had better sense than to have been born in iraq.

i'm still here, i'm still plugging away, i'm still sending out some letters and some email, i'm still hoping that sy hersh comes across with the video that he spoke of to the ACLU, i hope that one of these soldier boys with the stars on his shoulder will do the right thing and dig until he finds the thread that leads to rumsfelds office. but i'm not real optimistic that any of the truly culpable will ever pay. nothing is gonna happen to rummy, wolfowitz won't do any time, perl won't see the inside of a cell, bush won't won't even be charged with anything.

but don't think i ignore your posts about this, or that i'm not outraged. i'm just simmering for right now.

10. Thanks sobersteelhead,
sometimes I get so frustrated.

Washington Post had an article yesterday:

"Iraqi Teens Abused at Abu Ghraib, Report Finds"

But the new report, according to Pentagon sources, will show that MPs were using their animals to make juveniles -- as young as 15 years old -- urinate on themselves as part of a competition.

They still aren't reporting the worst, and still no pictures.

11. frustration seems to be built into the process, huh.
as best as me and my buds been able to divine from available sources, we figure that US/coalition forces are still holding 50 - 100 children under age 15. but we haven't been able to find any report on them for the last 9 - 10 days? or so. possible they have been released, maybe a bit too much pressure on the QT from save the children, UNICEF and the ICRC. the other option is truly too dark to consider.

and i understand that young teens can be dangerous when armed, and there may be legitimate reasons to detain them, but holding children that 7 and 8 years old just to put pressure on their parents who often haven't done anything more than had the bad sense to be born iraqi is inexcusable.

aargh, i'm just working myself up into a rage.
