Is MSNBC The Last

Network to even closely do Fair and Balanced coverage.....MSNBC seems to give both sides a fair chance to explain their platform before asking them to support it. Unlike FoxNews and the other NeoFox news ntwork......you know CNN.

It is great to see MSNBC hold the SCUM of the right wing acountable for their every word....

Kerry/Edwards in 2004

becoming corrupted.

2. They sure seem to be taking the audience here
from CNN and their ratings are showing it. Matthews seems to have gotten a new backbone transplant and Keith is usually great. It's almost like he reads DU. I don't know what the rest of the day is like.

3. MSNBC has improved. My own observations over the last year or so.
They have elevated themselves from a rating of 'mostly GOP biased' to a rating of only 'Slightly GOP biased'. If it were not for Scarborough and Tweeties GOP leaning days. MSNBC would actually get a 'Slightly Dem biased' rating... My own worthless rating system of course.

On the other hand, Olbermann's show is the only show (Exception: Norville last two nights) that actually reports some of the most outrageous acts against democracy by the Bu$h cartel while the rest of the media actively suppresses these known truths.

4. Well, the last bastion of true fair and balanced was
Now with Bill Moyers on PBS. Other than that PBS seems to have done a right turn too.

21. Can't stand that creeping conservatism. If you keep watching
as they begin to swing to the wacko side, next thing you know, you'll be watching O'Lielly or his equivalent on PBS.

26. Ahem, that's TWO programs:
Edited on Sat Aug-21-04 06:29 PM by gulfcoastliberal
Namely, the slimy, ultra-right fascists of the WSJ Editorial page. Now appearing on your local PBS station. Fuck PBS.

Edited to add: There is simply no left-wing balance to something like the WSJ editorial board. And when Bill Moyers steps down this year, NOW will go to a 30 minute format. PBS is a corporate shill.

14. Agreed.
PBS' NewsHour seems pretty toothless nowadays. They seem to have the same misconception of other media outlets that a debate is "balanced" by opposing debaters, rather than focusing on known facts and keeping participants in check relative to the facts.

11. how about this
all times eastern

7pm Hardball w/ recently unearthed spine and new executive producer Bob Somersby

8pm Countdown w/ Mr. Olbermann - as close to perfection cable news gets

9pm dump Ms. Norville, bring back After Hours (but Mr. Reagan has to stand up for himself)

10pm liberal leaning hour w/ nightly media fact checking segment (think mediamatters.org but include politician misstatements too, although Faux News lies could take up the whole hour each night) I don't think Mr. Reagan's ready for an hour solo. Perhaps Mr. Palast.

11pm MSNBC Late Night: steal Mr Stewart and Mr. Maher and have them do their shows here. C'mon, it could happen. NBC could spend some money here. It's not like they waste money on things like sports....

....okay, I know I have to come back to reality. Nice to dream about, though. I mean, the money I'd save on remote control batteries.... ;)

9. CNN is trying to become Fox News lite
Didn't u get the memo?

Trying to re-capture some of that conservative viewing audience which has migrated to Fox News. And it's become very obvious.

Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 08:48 PM by scmirage
real journalists-all except for Scarborough--but I guess they can always trot him and Buchanan out and say "Look--we have right-wing nuts too"-- I wish we could get a hold of Rick Kaplan's e-mail at MSNBC and let him know how much we appreciate Chris and Keith and even Dan Abrams (who has made some very favorable personal commentaries in favor of our side).

12. No I did not get the memo..
The far right says the main stream media goes left and the far left says it goes right....

I want to know where the fuck I am supposed to go for news. I want to know what is really going down. The author of this thread called MSNBC fair and Balanced. But have I not heard that slogan elsewhere?

"Sweet gentle Jesus on a fishing boat with a gillnet and a cheap pair of sandals" where can a Brotha get a table dance and some real news???

15. DU Latest Breaking News
Honestly, you're on your own to get your news, in my opinion. Guardian.co.uk, The Scotsman, DU's LBN, Buzzflash, etc. is where I get much of my news info. *All* the mass media are corporate-owned, and out-of-touch with progressive, liberal or populist issues. (Are you a communist?!?!)

Air America Radio is great to listen to, but it isn't all that informative -- at least not densely so. Internet-based research is essential homework for getting the facts for yourself. I've found Amy Goodman's "Democracy Now" and AAR's "Laura Flanders Show" radio programs to be informative, without the vitriol of typical talk radio. I consider Franken's show a must, but it's more for comic relief relative to the issues, rather than learning anything new.

Hope springs eternal. Shortly after the launch of Air America Radio, I began hoping that its success would be a bitch-slap to one of the Fox-lite cable news channels. *Maybe*, just maybe, MSNBC is truly taking a step back from the right-wing precipice. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. (Though efforts like those of Andrea Mitchell on tonight's Hardball diminish my hope.)

24. also BBC
I read DU AND THE LINKS TO THE STORIES to get my news.

I gave up TV in June 2000 because of the constant RW spin and am much less freaked out.

Various blogs as well, mostly because of links at DU.

Unfortunately, Americans today who want accurate news info have to abandon most of US media.

13. Short memories? Can't remember MSNBC and CNBC in 2000?
Matthews joined 90% of the 'media' in exoriating Gore - for brown shirts stiff neck and most importantly the lies - he smirked at the lying lies along with all his guest propagandists and perpetuated everyone even though they were debunked.

I don't think Olberman was around, but Matthews was disgusting. And he kept trying to make us think that he was a Democrate.

I'm perplexed about what is going on right now with the GE corporations. I'll patiently wait for their agenda to reveal itself because they are making a 180 or 90 degree turn on those two shows - a turn from a continually accelerating war on Democrats.

18. what are you talking about? Did you watch the DNC on MSNBC?
It was constant dem-bashing, mostly by Scarborough, just constant constant constant to the point where (to me at least) he simply looked like the asshole that he is, revealing his true colors.

Why the HELL MSNBC let that guy, and his cronies, critique the DNC as it was happening is simply disgraceful.

I don't see how you can possibly sing the praises of MSNBC as long as they let that guy spew his hatred.
