Let's review the week shall we?
1. Bush* poll numbers sinking fast.

2. Poll on Iraq invasion shows no support for more troops in Iraq and too much money being spent on Iraq.

3. Poll shows the vast majority of the people think Iraq is a quagmire which will last for years and won't be successful.

4. In Faux vs Franken, a federal district judge finds their lawsuit "wholey without a factual or legal basis" and notes the irony in a news organization threatending free speech, when historically they have gone to court to uphold it.

5. Dean is on Sunday talk shows and is taken seriously by Blitzer. Dean does a fantastic job of parrying the RW propaganda spin (IMHO at least).

6. All the Sunday talk shows were about the inevitability of more troops in Iraq and the administration's efforts to pretend they weren't needed, while at the same time the administration is having no luck getting international support.

7. The newsreaders aren't amazed that the administration can't get help from Europe on Iraq and seem to remember the bashing the RW gave Europe for no good reason.

8. While there is lots of bad news (UN bombing, unemployment sucks, Iraq invasion going to hell, Herr Ashcroft running around the country trying to sell his war on the constitution), its all sticking to Smirk quite nicely (as it certainly should) and no one is blaming Clinton.

9. Holy Joe is sinking like a stone, along with his PNAC vision.

We have lots to do to defeat the junta. It won't be easy and the real battles have yet to begin when Rove pulls out his $200 million war chest to spread lies. But, damnit, we had a pretty good week, and I'm feeling hopeful.

2. That's also good news.
While I'm a Dean supporter, I'll campaign and vote for Clark if he's nominated.

5. you mean he will actually declare himself a democrat?
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 02:51 PM by sujan
Clark is the rightwing's perfect ploy to divide the left votes.

Mark my words, either he wont run (obviously a welcoming news) or will run as an independent. Kinda like Ross Perot except that he will divide the democrat votes enabling Bush to be re-elected.

7. And in other good news
a LOT of the Dem bashing by Dems has been toned down, certainly not all, as you just aptly demonstrated, but a LOT.

Let's be practical. A southerner for VP who is smart, presentable and quite good on his feet, and a man who has led lots of troops. Can you say "better than Smirk on national security?"

Anyway, in the spirit of my optimism, whoever your choice is, should he/she win the nomination, I"LL VOTE FOR THEM!!!!

10. He will not run as an Independant
He wants Bush gone. He knows that running as an Independant will only ensure that Bush will stay in the Whitehouse.

6. Clark's entry will take some spotlight off of Arnold and put it back on
the failures in Iraq.

14. Right!
And Clark doesn't seem to ruffle Dean's feathers at all. It's nice sensing an amity between them even before Clark enters this thing. I'm supporting Clark's entry, btw.

3. Thanks for lifting the mood, Jacobin!!
I agree, we've had a banner week. Hell, every newscaster on TV is anxious to quote the latest Bush Zogby and Newsweek polls, and this morning, the Sunday talkies were positively frothy over Bustamante's surge in California.

Everyone's talking about the Dem race, with Dean and Clark really heating up and getting buzz (whether Clark's in or not, he's still helping with the anti-Bush buzz). And today, a new media anti-Bush catchphrase entered our vocabulary: "Perfect Storm."

It's been an uplifting week for our chances... it feels like the tide turned a bit this week. Tragedy notwithstanding, at least it seems like people are finally talking about the Chimp and his failures.

4. Thanks ! I was feeling pretty bad after listening to McCain this morning
After listening to a Department of Justice guy defend Patriots I & II Friday in a local Kansas City town-hall, and then McCain this morning talking about "drying up the water" in Iraq, I was having some kind of persistent "end-of-time" thoughts. Thanks for the perspective.

11. Nifty summary, Jacobin -- you should make this a weekly feature
I'm always happy to think up work for other people - LOL.

"People say, how can I help on this war against terror? How can I fight evil? You can do so by mentoring a child; by going into a shut-in's house and say I love you."

15. YES!
I forgot to post that one, and its very big. Without Bev and people like her, all the campaigning and work in the world would be for naught.

That one is getting legs and it is exceeedingly important.

Thanks for catching that one.
