Blair is probably not having a good weekend
http://www.guardian.co.uk/hutton/story/0,13822,1028069,00.html

Tony Blair is preparing at his country retreat this weekend for what is potentially one of the worst ordeals of his premiership, his appearance next week before Lord Hutton's inquiry into the death of Iraq weapons expert David Kelly.
The prime minister returned yesterday from a holiday in Barbados. He has cleared his diary of other business and two Downing Street staff, who have been briefing him daily on the inquiry, will help him prepare at Chequers. Government lawyers will also discuss his evidence with him.

Mr Blair could be questioned on why the dossier on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction was hardened up and why he did not call a halt to Alastair Campbell's battle with the BBC.

--snip--

Next week should be quite interesting.

1. Why Is Blair Still Around?
We kept hearing "Blair is toast" and "Blair will never survive" but he's still in power. I thought one of the advantages of the British system is that the opposition can call for a vote of confidence. Are the British people still confident in Blair's leadership? It doesn't sound like it! So ... why is Blair still around?

2. Help him prepare......?
Gosh, I would have thought telling the truth would be an option but, given that Blair has been lying through his teeth all along, I guess truth will be the LAST thing he will be prepared to give!

6. Totally agree
Geez,

Check this: "Government lawyers will also discuss his evidence with him."

Guess it is a mighty big web he has spun.

5. It Breaks My Heart
Any elected offical that sells his soul and his country's future for a few points toward a popularity poll or a few bucks is a thief and a traitor IMHO.

For example, why have China manufacture the chips used in our Cruise Missles where they can engineer a "back door?" Why did Regan give tax credits to Drug Companies to move the facilities out of the US? Why does my new Notebook's customer Support is based in an Asian nation in a population that can't speak English?

Im 50, grew up in the US and I've seen a lot of changes that paralell the British Empire's fall from grace in a far shorter time frame....
