3. I've been there on a few occasions
I'm a trucker and I used to drive over-the-road. I've been there a few times to deliver loads. I don't know much about the place, though. Truckers usually don't have enough time to do a lot of site-seeing. The only thing I can tell you for sure is that the weather's nice there in the winter, but it can get pretty hot in the summer. That probably isn't new info to you, though.

4. It's just outside of L.A.
and not really a city just a collection of warehouses and storage units that people work out of.

7. Yes, same as Vernon (near LA) and Sauget (near E St Louis)
There is a whole subset of suburbia called "industrial suburbs" that are essentially tax dodges, or where set up just for industrial purpoes..think of industrial parks incoporated as suburbs.

Bedford Park, McCook, and Stickney are similar examples near Chicago.

6. One of the places we occasionally go to for parts
Edited on Sun Aug-24-03 11:26 AM by haele
And one of the places "on my route" the year I did technical site surveys for MCI local network before they were bought out by Worldcom and gutted about 5-6 years ago.

There's a large corporate dairy processing plant there, one of the larger chain bakeries, a couple bottling plants for sodas, a couple other mid-sized factories, a major rail yard, hundreds of major and minor warehouses, the occasional office space and a few "low cost" worker's housing developments up around the hill areas. Mostly "blue collar" industrial.

It's located in the south eastern foothills of the LA Basin on the I-10, just east and a bit to the north of "Orange County", that bastion of "B-1 Bob and Crystal Cathedral" conservatism - where most of the managers and owners of the businesses in the City of Industry tend to live - you can certainly deduce that tidbit by the traffic patterns in the morning...lots of fancy high-end yuppy vechicles vying for freeway space with the 18 wheelers travelling "to" in the morning and "back" in the evenings.

The "feel" there is generally liberatarian verging on conservitive, a mix of biker and old time yuppie (despite all the unions there). The times I go up there and talk to the locals, I find that as in many "company towns", families and the social issues that go with them tend to get compartementalized into niches, the easier to shove them into the political "corners" of city business.
Anyway, here's the website:

http://www.cityofindustry.org/index2.html

You thinking of heading that way? UC Irvine is fairly close - about 15 - 20 miles (which in LA basin driving, is a hour and a half away!).

Haele
(edited first time to add the website, edited the second time for "speeeling" and the traffic update...)

8. I went there for a job interview once.
It's a pretty colorless place of industrial complexes.
