Rumors are circulating that the United States has found WMD!
Strategic Forecasting Alert :

Rumors are circulating that the United States has found
evidence of WMD in Iraq and is holding back the information to
sandbag its opponents and to extract maximum advantage of the
big
announcement. Now, these rumors could generated by the
administration to buy time. The rumors could be generated by
Democrats or the French and Russians to create a situation in
which Washington will be embarrassed when nothing comes out. The
rumors could be self-generating. The rumors could be true. The
word (a couple of people who may or may not know) is that the
announcement will be made Sept. 15 or so. We need to figure this
out if we can. Reason: it could change some of the dynamics of
the war in favor of the United States. It matters. Let's push
this.

19. It simply doesn't matter now.
It probably isn't true and even if it were, it would not be believable.

They are our WMDs anyway that we gave Saddam to fight Iran.

...yeah, and Bush said in Poland they'd found two trailers. And David Key was booted from the UN team for being an unethical tool bastard. Yeah, ok, whatever. Or maybe Task Force 20, those upstanding Dynacorp Mercenaries...maybe they "found" something...

3. It won't matter one iota.
Any thinking person will have concluded by now that Iraq DID NOT have weapons of mass destruction. Yeah, there's still polls out there showing that a majority of the public believes that they did, but guess what...they are not the thinking public. Any new claims that they've found WMD at this late date will be met with much scepticism.

31. Oh, it's still an 'issue'
The thing is, there is no way for the Bush/Blair administration to redeem themselves on it at this point, even if they find a trailer full of chemical shells buried under the sand.

The case that they made before the war stated that Iraq's WMD posed an imminent threat to the United States and United Kingdom. There is simply no possible way for that to have been true, no matter what they 'find' now.

This is a legal, not political, point as well. Without that imminent threat to the US/UK, there was no legal justification whatsoever for the invasion, thus violating the UN charter (Article II), and the UN constitution by extension (Article VI).

8. summer is a good time for planting
with the news blackout on WMD's over the summer...is it any surprise that there would be such an announcement when the Whistleass returns from vacation???

Signs are there - poll numbers dropping, vacation over, labor day holiday and September 11 anniversary coming up??

during campaigns we have the "october surprise", with the whistleass administration we have the "September Scare"

9. Further in the same report
are more rumors that indicate Dubya's gonna get his war on to boost those numbers:

Watch for the signs of the U.S. Command preparing major offensives in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as possibly in other countries against al Qaeda-associated targets; rumor has it that the offensives might coincide with the 9/11 anniversary. Watch for U.S. military movements and statements in this regard.

13. The American public doesn't care if WMD's are found
That has been the discouraging news from the public since bonehead and cronies got caught lying about WMD's. That cut's both ways - people are more concerned now about Iraq becoming a quagmire and a long term occupation. I don't think a "find" would help the junta anyway. And I doubt anyone would believe it just based on rumor.

45. Yes
I think a finding of WMD's would matter more if the press were still harping on the SOTU lies. Since the press has moved on and we haven't really heard much about the justification for the war, just the quagmire that we're now involved in, most people won't care about any WMD findings. Many have stopped asking why we're there and started asking, "When are we leaving?"

Also, why are they holding out on any WMD findings-- it sounds like a game to me. I would think that Tony Blair would really need any thing that they could up with right about now.

14. right wing bushy tactic
my freeper brother in law has been saying this all along, so I know that this is the officially approved White House line coming from Fox, Rush, etc.

Stratfor is a good, reliable site; they are reporting on rumors. here's probably what happened:

Freepers among the troops listened to their instructions from Fox, passed along these rumors as facts, they spread like wildfire among troops, at home right wingers continue to spread them.

In any case, we KNOW for a fact that while there probably are some WMDs in Iraq, there is absolutely NO WAY that they were of such a quality or quantity to threaten the US...

Bush is a liar, that's the bottom line.

He makes a little slip...Russert asked him about the case for WMD. Myers replied something to the effect "we'll announce that when the time is right..."

I'll watch the replay at 10 EST and get the exact quote...

26. It's the same crap they've been saying all along
"They/we will reveal what they/we found at the appropiate time...."

Translates into:

"They/we haven't found shit, but they/we gotta say this so that those supporting us can continue to fool themselves."

To justify this war, and to make Bunnypants not a liar with his pre-war rhetoric, they have to find tons and tons of WMD. Not just a few beakers of chemicals, or plans for an experimental Al Samud missile to carry a "dirty bomb" warhead.

I say let them bring out their "find". The American public has wrongfully forgotten that the Liar in Chief lied through his teeth to start a war. Finding a tiny little thing here or there will only help us to point out that Dimson is a liar. He said tons of weapons, he said imminent threat, he said that he knew exactly where the WMD were. All dems would have to do is look at the "find", and compare it to the laundry list the Idiot provided in his SOTU address and go, "sorry, not good enough".

Because if he tried to pull off finding everything he talked about in the SOTU, the whole world will laugh at him. Everyone will know the find is bullshit.

What would be the point? If *'s numbers have been on a steady fall why wait in revealing the WMD find? Chimp could gloat about it from now until election day! It would be way too obvious to wait until close to election time. And how could they keep it so well hidden? Surely it would leak out somewhere or sometime. I'll keep an eye on the calender.

and let the left anti-war crowd shoot off their mouths for a few more months...Poppy Bush had too much good news all at once - he didnt save any good news for the election cycle...They are saving the capture of Osama, Saddam and the discovery of WMD for the election cycle...that will give Bush Jr the bump he needs to win...the left will have no crediblity...

32. I don't buy that reasoning
That's all occurred to me as well, but Bush has taken so much damage to his already thin credibility, that if they WERE 'holding something back to discredit the left', it is WAY too late for it to matter now. The damage to Bush's credibility (and that of the United States) is already done.

He's going to need more than a 'bump' at election time at this rate.

He was just on Meet the Press, and Tim asked him that question. He hedged a bit and said the announcement would be made later at the appropriate time. Sounds to me as if something has been found. Who put it and when will be the question, I guess.

35. I HAVE NO DOUBT BUSHCO WILL PLANT SOMETHING
But it does not matter. They will be disproven, or shown to be so old, that they do not constitute a threat to neighboring sand dunes.

Bush is toast. This is a classic Rovian trap. They are sexing up the new dossier as they like to do, and are working on beating interesting comments out of some Iraqi torture victims for juicy quotes for the report, and they are investigating exactly how they converted the balloon trailers into Los Alamos. ;-)

This report when it comes out in September (when rove likes to launch all his new 'products') , will result in the I told you so's that Repugs love to do, will skew the polls for a bit, then the lies will all come unraveled again.

I am starting to think that the only reason Bush will be re-elected will be because of either another attack or a Bush manufactured international emergency that will lead the public to desire stability. He is also sucking the Miami Cubans' cock right now, setting up kangaroo court and everything.

IMPEACH BUSH.

Was on the tube this am, and it was possible to read into what he said that there would be an announcement "when the time is right" or something like that. I can’t remember what it was exactly but I thought that he implied there would be some found soon. He also talked about a garbage can of anthrax is hard to find in a country the size of California.

Was there ever any doubt?

Will the public be so stupid as not to ask why they weren’t used against us or Israel if Saddam really had them?

Also, Rummy had to go outside the active military to find the new Chief, likely because the active guys wouldn't go along with the fraud.

38. Politics over troop safety
If they really had found WMD, it would give the invasion more credibility in the eyes of alot of people and possibly alot of Iraqis. To keep it a secret when it could mean a different view of our troops and maybe make them safer for the sake of politics would be the worst mistake yet.

And it wouldn't change the fact that they lied and never knew whether these weapons actually existed in the first place.
