Yesterday, I went racing the nearest Barnes and Noble to pick up Al Franken's new book. When I couldn't find it, I went up to the information desk and only got out the words "I'm looking for Al.." when the clerk stopped me and told me that they hadn't received their shipment and had no idea why. She also added, "You don't know how many people have been in looking for that today."
So, I moseyed over to the Current Affairs section to pick up a copy of Joe Conason's "Big Lies". (They had it on display right next to "Treason"). While I was scanning the section I noticed an early twenties type also looking the books over. Then, an elderly lady came barreling up to the shelf and made a dive for a copy of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy". I told her it was a great book and she said she knew. It was her fourth copy - she's lent her other 3 copies out to friends and she has more people she wants to read it so she decided she needed another copy. The twenties something looks over and says "Hey, that's the book I'm looking for." (There were more copies on the shelf) - The older lady told him to watch his blood pressure while he reads it. We talked some more and found that we had all come in looking for Franken's book and the woman also picked up a copy of Conason's book. The "kid" said he wanted to read that one too but he'd start with Palast's book.
So there we were - young, middled-aged and old all disucssing the same book, stolen elections and California's energy mess... The word is getting out.
And, for those of you who know this area, this happened at the B&N at the Galleria in Edina.
