1. Ahem.
Anti-choice lawmakers are one step closer to creating a nationwide loophole that would deny countless women access to reproductive health care and information.

This new proposed Federal Refusal Clause, now moving in the House, would let HMOs, for-profit hospitals and other health-care companies forbid their doctors from providing abortion services - or even information - to their patients. Under this proposal doctors could be barred from even referring women clients to another doctor - even if the doctor thinks her patient's health is at risk.

A House panel approved this proposal on July 14. The full House could take it up at any time, so please take action today.

2. Just because something is illegal NOW
means nothing. I can't even understand why this person would say that. On the other end of the scale, conservative made ALCOHOL illegal. That didn't stop it from being repealed. Conservative look at legalized abortion as "going backward," if it were made ILLegal, that would be a step in the right direction for them. What a strange individual to not be able to grasp this concept. If Bush gets the right people in there, any right-wing law can be passed with a majority on both houses and a conservative in the executive branch.

3. Interesting thing going around with RWers
It's odd. I had dinner with an ex-girlfriend RWer from years ago about two weeks back. She brought up politics.

She: "Guess you are voting for Kerry"

Me: "Of course, aren't you?"

She: "Kerry's a flip flopper....etc etc,) all the usual RW mantras.

Me: "Aren't you concerned about abortion rights?"(I know that she has been in the past)

She: "Yes. That's why I'm voting for Bush. Kerry is anti-abortion"

Me: (sputtering at the stupidity)"We can argue about opinions, but there is no need to argue about facts. Kerry is pro-choice and Bush has been anti-choice for years."

She: "ok, you may be right. I don't watch much TV anymore"

Somehow, among the vast unwashed RW population, there has been some serious misinformation spread about this issue.

Sorry not to answer your question any better.

Maybe print out a couple of Scalia's dissents in abortion cases and then find the quotes where Scalia and Thomas are said to be Bush's favorite justices?

Anyway, good luck. Ignorant people are the bane of this country and it appears to me to be willful and not neglectful ignorance, so there may not be much hope.

4. Buy a copy of "The War on Choice" by Gloria Feldt!!!!!
Everyone should pick up extra copies of these things and give them to friends, acquaintances, strange women you meet on the street!!!

It's all laid out in that book. Copies are around $6 on Amazon.

Tell your friends that it's not just abortion. Once that's out of the way, they're going to concentrate on birth control and get rid of it next.

The Pill, Depo Provera, IUDs-- anything that prevents implantation is considered an abortifacient and will be TARGETED!!!

We have got to let women know that even if they are against abortion, they have GOT to stand up for this issue, or we won't even have birth control left!

Say hello to 1900, ladies.
