WWII Vets Against Fake Hand Injuries: "What's behind the pen, Bob?"
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 01:12 PM by Brotherjohn
Responsible Pacific Theater Torpedo Bomber Pilots for Truth: "Admit it, George (H.W. Bush). You ditched your plane because you knew you'd be running for President 50 years later!"

Does anyone else see how absurd this is?

2. Actually that would be...
Torpedo Bomber Pilots for Truth. H.W. flew an Avenger torpedo bomber, not a fighter. If he'd been in a fighter, he probably wouldn't have had crewmen abourd his plane to lose when it went down.

6. Of course
You're not the first to use that sort of analogy.

Someome (or several someones) have already proposed "TANG Pilots for Truth" and such.

9. I have seen those. But I think they don't even address the most absurd...
... aspect.

I think it's entirely legitimate, given the questions about his record, for citizens to be concerned about possible avoidance of service from a wartime president who is sending troops (Nat'l Guard, no less) into harm's way. Even without the Kerry record attacks, but ESPECIALLY as a response to them. "TANG Pilots for Truth" would be an entirely reasonable response, in my mind.

But I thought about just what they're doing in an entirely different light this morning, and saw the full absurdity of it.

Out of the blue, they're questioning the severity of a (multiply) decorated war veteran's injuries! Imagine if we questioned Dole's injuries? Kerry was inarguably injured multiple times. He VOLUNTEERED for duty in an incredibly dangerous war zone, and specific duty of a dangerous nature in that war zone! And they're questioning the severity of his injuries?! It's just STUPID!! (not to mention desperate, and likely backfiring)

I don't think I could have ever imagined that happening a couple of years ago.

3. Nice point but....
Dole spent many, many months in the hospital from his injuries. Although a lousy politician, he nearly died from enemy action. Please refrain from making a joke out of it.

5. I am not making a joke of Dole's injuries. I am pointing out the absurdity
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 01:20 PM by Brotherjohn
... of questioning the injuries of a decorated war veteran. If it ever ran, such an ad would in fact be repulsive. He (Kerry, Dole, McCain, or anyone) was injured fighting for his country. End of discussion. But not for today's Repubs!

IF Democratic groups were to in fact run such ads against Dole, THEN it would be making a joke of his injuries. But see, we would never do that. That's my point.

11. I don't even think I was being politically incorrect.
"Biting satire" does not automatically equate with "political incorrectness". If the target of my criticism had been Dole and his injuries, then maybe so. But it was people who would actually criticize "just how bad" a wounded and decorated war veteran's wounds who were my targets. And people who would do this, no less, at a time of war, when countless numbers of our young men are coming home wounded!

Aiming a shot at such critics, I would think, is in fact very politically correct.

But I agree PC has gone too far. Plus some people just don't get the point of satire.

7. The Imperial Subjects of Amerika collectively have been driven clinically
insane for Fun and profit.

Not unlike the Nazis and the Soviet Union, though not as coordinated and not nearly as hamfisted..

An Imperial Amerikan Subject ios as insulated from reality as the denizens of the two nations I mentioned above.
