Is Hurricane Charley's path like 1960's Hurricane Donna?
It sure looks like it to me. It came ashore to the south of Central Florida and devastated inland areas as well as coastal. Anyone remember?

For one thing, Donna was a category 5. For another, it went up off the Atlantic coast and kept its strength. Charley is most likely going to head inland, along the trough. Even if it gets back offshore, it's never goint to be as strong as Donna. (On edit: And yes, I do remember Donna. I was in 10th grade and they closed the schools in New York City. It was one of many memorable events that marked the fall of 1960.)

3. just what we need in NE-PA
more rain

we haven't gone more than 2 days since spring without rain

as it is - most of the rain/boomers that have come through have sparked flood warnings or Flood watches (creeks/streams)

Susquehanna has been running pretty high - a double whack of Bonnie and Charlie will probably cause it to reach it's flood stage

5. I hope it heads right for Jeb!
Hell knows he deserves it for the rotten job he's done ruining this state.

Lu Cifer, glad I don't live in the Keys!

7. I Remember Hurricane Donna
I was in Second Grade, and one of my best friends was a girl down the street named Donna.

The storm was still very strong byt he time it got to New Jersey, but they still had school that day. As the day wore on, the storm got stronger. Finally, they announced that they were holding us in the school because they were concerned about the school busses tipping over in the wind.

So we all settled in for what promised to be a "big adventure" for a group of eight-year-olds. Then the phone rang in my classroom. My teacher answered it, hung up and said, "Wayne, your mother is down in the office - she came to get you." So I had to leave, and miss out on all the fun I just KNEW my classmates were going to have.

When my mother and I got back out to the car, my sisters were already in the car. My older sister (who was in 6th Grade at the time) was just plain MORTIFIED that Mom had come to get her, and made Mom PROMISE that she wouldn't do it again.

The next big hurricane to hit New Jersey didn't come until my senior year in high school - 1971.

8. It had occurred to me that perhaps *Selected
was hoping for a honey of a storm to remove all his little problems at Gitmo, no???

Here's hoping a storm like Andrew doesn't take a claim to fame.
