McDonald's Lowers Restaurant Openings

Sat Aug 7, 5:06 AM ET Add Business - AP to My Yahoo!

OAK BROOK, Ill - Fast-food giant McDonald's Corp., in its quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (news - web sites), lowered the number of full-menu restaurants it plans to open this year to 500 from 550.

Oak Brook-based McDonald's also said it will open 250 smaller, limited-menu restaurants instead of the planned 300, and close 200 traditional restaurants and 150 limited-menu restaurants.

"This is the result of the refinement of the numbers as we go through the year," McDonald's spokesman William Whitman said Friday. "It is not a signal of a strategy change or a shift of our focus."

Whitman would not say where the openings or closings would take place. McDonald's has more than 30,000 restaurants worldwide, including about 13,000 in the United States.

since slapping patties on buns is, under the Bush definition, now a manufacturing job. :eyes:

3. I knew it was only a matter of time before the manufacturing
sector would catch up with the rest of the market. Cough, cough!

How bad do things have to get before even freepers realize they're being screwed by this economy?
