The
Carpetbagger has a good analysis of why the
Florida Republican party is keeping the list of delegates to the New York Republican national Convention secret. Of course the Florida Reps are saying it's because of security concerns (
don't want the terrorists tracking down the GOP delegates at NYC brothels and murdering them one by one in order to get Kerry elected now, do we?).
The Carpetbagger points out the real reason for keeping the list of delegates secret is
message control. Emphasis added:
I have to assume that this had little to do with delegates' privacy and everything to do with the Republicans' obsession with message control. These rank-and-file Republicans from the nation's most important swing state are likely to say all manner of crazy things when, for example, the New York Times gives them a call before the convention begins. The surest way to control the message is to limit access to potential messengers.
So what can you, a simple blogger, do when the elephants hit the Big Apple? Easy...
interview them. If you live in New York or if you're one of them blogeurs who get to cover the inside of the GOP convention the way we let bloggers cover our convention (assuming they're doing this), then all you gotta do is walk around and interview people and quote them verbatim.
The best thing we could do is to make sure that the true character of the Republican Party gets as much media play as possible. Let them do the talking and I guaranteee we'll get more than a few juicy quotes to tickle the blogosphere.
Are there any bloggers out there? If you know any bloggers who might be going to New York, I ask that you request them to try this.
