Freeper claim I heard about Clark
that as Russian forces moved into Kosovo, Clark gave orders to open fire on them if they entered a certain terroritory. A British officer disobeyed his command and didn't fire when they entered, and that's all that stopped WWIII.

how much accuracy to this?

1. Not accurate
Clark told the British General (Sir Mike Jackson) to block a runway, not fire at them *sigh*

2. ah
never believed it, but I always want to get the true story on the Freeper spin to things, unless it's so riduculous it's not even worth it (ie "The Clinton Body Count")

4. The Russians..
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 06:14 PM by graham67
were never supposed to have their own sector. They were attempting a power grab. General Clark wanted to block the runway, and it was initially supported by the politicians. General Jackson disagreed with the order and went over Clark's head to the British government. It was finally decided that they would stop the progress of Russian troops by denying them airspace.

on edit: The Russians were also quite sympathetic to the Serbs, which was why they were not to have their own sector.

5. SOP when dealing with this sort of slime
"Prove it. What are your sources, where are the stories and contemporaneous accounts?" They'll be gone faster than a fart in a frying pan.

3. That story's been debunked hundreds of times.
Clark never ordered the troops to fire just to block their path.

9. WTF?
I'm sorry--I don't see what problem the Freepers would have with starting WWIII.
