Support our troops?
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 05:49 AM by Dangerman
If supporting our troops means supporting our troops for what they are doing in Iraq, then HELL NO I DO NOT SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

The ONLY support I will give to our troops is to bring them home right now!

3. Support our troops
means we don't send them in harm's way because of some grandeous adventure scheme thought up by an AWOL would-be cowboy.

Support our troops means that we live up to the promise we made career soldiers to provide them with adequate health care.

Support our troops means opening more VA hospitals instead of closing them.

Support our troops means providing medical support for Guardsmen/Reservists and not cutting it off after a month.

Support our troops means providing psychological counselling for those who have PTSD.

Support our troops means owning up to the fact that Agent Orange and Depleted Uranium have caused disease.

That's why my "Support Our Troops" bumper sticker also says, "Vote Kerry".

4. I think you need to re-think
what you just posted.

Those troops are not there because they wanted to go, they are there because they were sent.

Support the troops by demanding that your representatives fully fund the VA, provide decent housing, enforce the law for Guardsmen, provide health benefits to their families...

8. Poverty draft. And in some cases,
a propaganda draft...Especially after 9-11, joining the service felt like a noble thing to do. And I think almost half of them are National Guardsmen who REALLY thought they were supposed to stay domestic in case of attack. Who would have thought Bush would protect the country by sending all our Guardsmen to the other side of the world?

21. What a good question.
Ok lets look at some things:
These wonderful troops overwhelmingly vote for Shrub
It is made up of the most base, barbaric individuals in the USA
I served 10 years with these animals. It was not uncommon to hear them slur "niggers, women, ragheads, and liberals" Why would i want to support the enemy? They want this administration in power, good for them they can also die for it.
2 incidents that made a huge impact on my military carrer.
1 A ship in our task force ramming and injuring people on a greenpeace boat. And everyone cheering like they had just destroyed Americas worst enemy.
2 When the destroyer mistakenly shot down an iranian airliner killing hundreds including children. Same cheering for the dead "Ragheads"

Why the fuck would anyone want to support these people as a whole?

Think about it.

13. that's it? supporting the troops makes you a patriot?
My idea of patriotism is the exact opposite- voicing dissaproval for whoever- whether it's Bush or the 'misguided youth' who kill, rape, torture or sexually abuse children for the old red white and blue and the little dictator- is involved in what is essentially a criminal act; the invasion and subjugation of a sovereign nation without a formal declaration of war. Don't get me wrong- I don't condemn families and friends of troops for supporting them; by all means, give them all the love and succor you can give. But, don't ask me or anyone else without a 'dog' in this fight to do likewise. I know the stats- roughly thirty % of active enlistees were adjudicated criminals before the service. I'd place that figure at around 50% given the nature of military secrecy, especially surrounding perenially embarassing subjects like 'the troops'.

So do or say whatever you feel is appropriate regarding 'the troops- I won't call you unpatriotic for exercising your right if you do. But if you continue to call into question the patriotism of those of us who won't go along with this illogical heresay, you can expect a logical and pointed rebuttal. The 30% stat is from a story in the LA Times printed about two weeks ago and for my parting shot, this is it- I haven't heard one supportive word for the troops except for families, friends, and vets; who especially should know better than praising an American soldier knowing his history for the last 40 years.

18. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment..
Yes, my idea of being a patriot is believing in a better America, like either Kerry or Edwards said in their speech.

19. so between a third and half of those with whom
I served "...were adjucated criminals..."?

Let me tell you what I believe...

1) The numbers are wrong

2) I'd serve again if needed

3) I hope you're not the one I'm going to have to depend on in a tight situation.

10. I love our troops
They are someone's children.
They signed up for patriotism, they were sent for folly.
I wish them safety and a safey return.
I hope and pray they act kindly toward their fellow humans while in Iraq if possible, but defend themself if needed.

They did not choose this war.
They will not get rich off this war.
Many will come back transformed.
Many will lose life, limb and mental health.

They signed up after 911.
They wanted to defend their country.
Or they wanted to earn a college degree
Either way, it's not their fault.
They are someone's children.

20. Yes, we all support them with our taxes... fact.
If you don't want to support them, then find a way to not pay your
taxes. Otherwise, mate, its all talk.

The military industrial protection racket has a real grip on the
public purse, a criminal grip, and it is the obligation of every
decent person to get out of that grip, to expose it and undermine
the criminals.

Was it not stalin who said, "one death is a tragedy, a million
deaths is statistics."

Similarly, one person dying in a criminal war is a horrible tragedy,
but fuck the army and the torturing mass murderers directing them.
