When did CNN start doing the In Memory of Fallen Soldiers at breaks?
I started seeing these today. Picture and short bio plus date of place and date of death. Sad and powerful.

Just saw a couple at the break about 2:45PM and saw earlier this morning.

Wonder if MSNBC and Faux will follow suit.

1. Haven't seen one yet
But agree that such images would be powerful. These kids shoulder responsibilities few of us can fathom...I can't imagine what it would have been like to have faced death every day at age 19.

4. I saw something else new on CNN today
The total number of US war dead; both pre and post "Mission Accomplished. I think it's because it is now very close to having more soldiers dead after May 1, than before. It's one of those "tipping points."

16. 135 after May 1, and I think the other one was 273 total
Both are accurate, I believe. Usually they do the combat death number that is in the 60's for after May 1.

5. I haven't seen one yet, but I think it's a great idea and I'm glad
that they've decided to do it. I think they should also run the total number of troops killed in the war on a daily basis.

12. 2 - 3 weeks ago - guess they're not running them that often
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 02:02 PM by rmpalmer
Think it's time for sending them a positive email comment encouraging them to do more often. We've lost so many it could fill the day.

Remember when MSNBC (and was it NBC as well?) encouraged families to send in pics of their loved ones serving for their Wall of Heroes. Now is the time our troops need the support when they are being fired on and mined every day. When they are facing shortages in equipment, food and water, shelter, hygiene, mail, etc. But the cable nets are too busy covering Arnold, Kobe, Laci, and every AWOL photo-op etc.

8. The News Hour on PBS
has been doing this since the end of the war. They end each show with a moment of silence, and they show a picture and bio of soldiers how have died recently.

9. Today seems to be the first day.
PBS has been doing it on "The Newshour with Jim Lehrer" since the beginning of the war to their credit. It's about time the rest of the media whores started publizing that our American soldiers are dying everyday in a war that Bush claims we won.

11. They're trying to Out-Fox Fox
Fox News watchers like the unapologetic jingoism and "America is always right" drivel on that station. CNN is simply trying to appease them. Good luck.

I think they were, and are, right.
