how the world was created......so say the apaches
http://www.meta-religion.com/World_Religions/Ancient_religions/North_america/apache_creation_story.htm

this story is now referred to as a myth. mythology is always there, in any era. myths and fables come and go, but people who were raised with these mythologies believe in them. to call their beliefs a myth might be taken as an insult. if you are a christian, you may be offeneded if someone told you christ was not the messiah. the jews and the christians disagree on this particular 'fact'.

of course, all but a few of the apache people are gone, replaced by the manifest destiny of european white men, and their god is gone too.
before we almost wiped out every last orgiginal native inhabitant of this continent, we first killed their gods, and replaced them with our own, nameless, faceless single god. and now, our beliefs are dominant, and no one dares question them, or insult them with the word 'myth'.

how arrogant, for one religion, to utterly dismiss all other religions as fairy tales. some of the non christian sects of the world believe in many things that we americans find odd, or outright strange, or unbelievable. try to convince a catholic that virgin birth is a myth, they'll be insulted. but we dismiss the greek's gods, and the roman's gods, as silly fairy tales. zuess, athena, poseiden, mercury, mars, all are now considered myths. but the people of the day did not think so. now only time and distance has reduced their beliefs to mythology.

who is to say our american god is the only right one? who can say if jesus really walked on water, or if the buddha received enlightenment under a tree, or quetzacoatal is not returning soon on a chariot of snakes? if someone suggests that the bible is FULL of similar far fetched myths, he often gets slammed in here. not everyone takes every word of the bible as pure truth, like the snake handlers do.
the verse, take up serpants, and drink poison' was never meant to be taken literally. nor was the verse 'thou shalt not suffer a witch to live'. yet 15 million or so men women and children were slaughtered in a holocaust of religious madness based on that one verse.

the bible is but one of many religious texts created by men and women over our long history. who are we to say it is the only true religion? how did we get that lofty honor? it takes a leap of faith to believe in things you know are not really true.

the only thing the american god has going for him is he is out to destroy all other gods seemingly. a crusade if you will. a god who cannot tolerate any other gods before him, he said so. no room for the comanche god, or the hindu god, or the greek god.

if there is a god, how he must be laughing at us all. one man's faith is another man's mythology.

1. I don't know much about Apache religion but here's something from the Hopi
The Hopi nation teaches that the Creator made the human race in 4 colors, Red, Yellow, Black, and White. He gave each of them a piece of the Truth and left it up to them to piece it together.

Makes perfect sense if you think about it.
