What is relationship between terror threats, protests and GOP convention?
CSPAN caller said he heard there were going to be violent demonstrations in NYC led by anarchists. In light of terror threats, he said that they shouldn't be allowed.

He also suggested that Kerry appeal to protesters to stand down and not protest.

So, what do you think? Will they use the heightened alert to crack down on protesters? What scenarios do you envision? Do you think Kerry should ask people to back off?

1. They are afraid
of 1 million peaceful demonstrators showing up to show the world that America does not support George Bu$h.

12. Never
And if among the thousands of average-looking, peaceful protesters, one person burns a flag or looks a little "out there," they will be the ones getting all the coverage.

They don't want people to know that others like you and I are out in the streets. I know I had a very warped view and was quite reluctant until I started attending protests and saw it all for myself. It was NEVER scary or violent, even in a big city like Chicago.

2. I heard a very interesting theory. . .
. . .that the increased "terror threats" were actually being used to pump more security money into NYC for the GOP Convention without it actually showing up as a convention expense.

4. This is part of it I am sure
The GOP is worried about the protests - they didn't really materialize in Boston, but they will be in NYC. The protesters will be rank and file Americans looking to show support for their country and opposition to Bush.

Bush will not be able to say - those that disagree hate America. It will become clear that those who disagree oppose Bush but love America.

Just like the crowds for Kerry, these protests will show Americans what other Americans are thinking - true honest information, not skewed by stenographers, eh reporters, who interview each other and copy from Drudge. It is empowering, it is democracy in action.

5. Some C-Span callers need to stop by the medicine
cabinet on the way to the telephone.

I love the way the caller has personally assigned Kerry as the Leader of the Anarchists.

6. I know
That was just silly. Yeah, the anarchists are going to listen and obey anyone in authority anyway. :eyes:

7. well, it did provide my first smile of the day
I have to be honest though; when I watch C-span while having coffee, I wonder sometimes if these callers are not paid by the GOP to say things such as "Kerry needs to call off the anarchists." MOST people are going to think "loon," as we did, but there are some that are going to mentally link Liberals with anarchists now.

Or, maybe I just need more coffee. :)

Hope your bike ride was a blast!
