LOL--IL GOP is trying to get Alan Keys to run against Barack Obama
Keyes' Name Floated by GOP Insiders as possible Senate replacement

Monday, August 02, 2004

By The Leader-Chicago Bureau

CHICAGO -- The story of finding a replacement for former Illinois Republican U.S. Senate nominee Jack Ryan took yet another plot twist today as word began circulating that certain members of the GOP State Central Committee are seeking to woo former GOP presidential candidate and one-time United States ambassador to the United Nations, Alan Keyes, into the race.

Keyes, a conservative icon, is being sought after by certain party leaders and a bevy of grassroots conservative activists who are enthralled with Keyes' renowned oratory skills on issues of conscience, according to a source close to the situation.

Over the weekend, suggestions of Keyes, an African-American conservative Republican who does not live in Illinois, began circulating among the rank-and-file GOPers at a northwest suburban Republican picnic with a state central committee vote looming tomorrow.

While Keyes is a resident of Maryland with no identifiable ties to Illinois, the residency issue does not present a legal problem. According to the Article I, Sec. III of the United States Constitution, a candidate for United States Senate must only "...when elected, be an Inhabitant of the State for which he shall be chosen."

3. The Constitution may not require it, but are you saying Illinois doesn't
either???

The guy DOES have fabulous oratorical skills, but NO connection to IL???

What, are the Republicans assuming Obama is an attractive candidate just because he speaks well???

7. they just talked about it on CSPAN
all he has to do is MOVE here!

apparently being here very soon will give him enough time of residence to qualify

that would be almost as funny as DiKKKa

12. he speaks well in spouting right wing hatred
obama says we are one that we have gay friends in red states and friends who coach little league in blue states.

alan keyes says gays should be imprisoned and those who don't believe in "his god" will go to hell.

8. How sad that the GOP has to resort to carpetbagging a token.
They seemed to have so much disdain for Hillary when they accused her of it.

11. Hey...he's black! Never mind that Keyes is an ultra right wing kook.
And that Alan Keyes is the LAST thing the Illinois GOP needs. Don't those numbskulls at the Republican Party here realize that a right winger, like Keyes, will lose. Badly.

God, how fucking cynical can you get?

17. did you hear him tell the story about losing his toupee
in his hotel room, and enlisting the help of somebody to find it?

it got stuck on the bottom of some sort of box, and they couldn't find it for a LONG time

then he went into how he has a backup, but he doesn't usually bring it for two reasons, make that three:

one, its cheesy......hahaha, not like the one he wears

two, it gets WRINKLED when he puts it in luggage

three, it scares security people when they search his bags

they played that during a rain delay; apparently they do a best of ron and the other guy during delays

that KILLED!

21. I didn't mean to flame you, I got the joke OK.
Ron Santo was one of my favorite Cubs and I love listening to him during the Cub's broadcasts on WGN.

I'm having just as good a time as you watching the Illinois Goopers scramble. It's just too funny to watch.

Judy Barr Topinka was on earlier today on the Channel 5 morning broadcast and she was totally pathetic.

It'll be interesting to see who, if anyone, they come up with today. I'm betting either Alan Keyes or someone will decide to bankroll the Orland Park soccer mom, Elizabeth Gorman.

23. Without the Bush family the GOP would be in the same trouble ...
on a national scale. If they didn't have a Bush to rally around they couldn't produce a candidate of any real stature. (Not that any of the Bush's has any real stature.) Outside of Guliani and Pataki and maybe Gropenator the GOP has no truly nationally acceptable candidates.

All of a sudden Ted Nugent looks like a halfway sane choice by comparison. Love it!
