2. Sorry. He just got done. But if you missed it, watch it on repeat!
This Bonilla guy was just puky... describing where they got the information about the most liberal and 4th most liberal for the dem candidates, he didn't want to say...
Brought Jon a pair of cowboy boots for his baby... it said GOP ROCKS on the soles of the boots.... and said it would go with the gun..Jon's response: Yea, that is the best representation of the image of a Jew (or something to that effect).

too bad the people that actually call themselves 'journalists' refuse to call the republicans on their lies. we have to rely on comedy central of all places to do it.

11. One of the best adversarial interviews EVER!
And Jon was trying to be nice! He kept asking and giving Bonilla chances to tell the truth without spin (ugh, I feel dirty even talking about spin thanks to O'Reilly. The douchebag.), and he finally busted out THE FACTS and made Bonilla look like a complete fucking fool.

And those cowboy boots? Cute, but writing "GOP ROCKS" on the soles is kind of over the line, and as a parent I'd be pretty damn irritated. Not quite as funny as Blitzer's gift and Jon's exchange with him, though.

"Your son can pretend to be Tucker Carlson!"
"Noooo, he can't."

12. Samantha Bee knocked one out of the park
Sam's report about that poor, pathetic Republican running for a Florida state senate seat on an "Anti-Faggotization" of pool halls plank was by far her best work yet. Oh my god, that was funny!!!! You can't make-up stuff better than that. :D

It had me rolling on the floor....

16. Agreed
Both started of really weak, IMO. Early on, they both tried to force the humor. Now they are settling down and letting the subjects provide the humor...they just lead them on. They are both now favorites of mine...especially Rob.

It was priceless...in a sad, pathetic sort of way. :D

17. Samantha Bee is growing on me.
I thought she was grating at first, but after this and the Michael Moore Hates America bit, I'm starting to really like her.

I miss Steve Carrell, and wish Steven Colbert had more bits though. Colbert could eventually be a worthy replacement for Jon himself! ...in a decade or two, of course.

I want to know how badly that interview was chopped, though. Just because... that guy sounded waaaaay too out of touch and whackjob.

20. What would be the point if it wasn't real?
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 02:21 PM by Minnesota_Lib
From a Sacramento Bee article written after an election official was interviewed by the Daily Show's Rob Corddry (follow link for the full version):

"Don't you think blacks should be given more than one vote to make up for that whole slavery thing?" Cordrry asked LaVine. "P. Diddy's got to be worth two votes, and Justin Timberlake, he's worth two votes, even though he's not black or anything."

It does if the point is a comedic look at the news. In an interview with PBS' Bill Moyers last year, Jon Stewart said his program does not fabricate anything in its pursuit of laughs.

"We just distill it to, hopefully, its most humorous nugget," he said. "And in that sense it seems faked and skewed just because we don't have to be subjective or pretend to be objective. We can just put it out there."

If anyone is interested, here is a decent interview with Rob.

21. Saw this during lunch today... What a great show!
LOVED this one!

I love how Jon Stewart plays "dumb" at the beginning, luring Bonilla in. And then *BAM* he just lays down facts with statements like (sorry no attribution for the quote, someone sent it to me from the web):

"STEWART: But, see. No. ...Edwards over his career is actually more to the right than the median Democratic and Kerry is more to the right of Kennedy. So, I just, want...what you said. You just want people to have an honest discussion and that's all that I want."

and

STEWART: Like the 350 tax cut thing, is so out of context...

Stewart is so much smarter than most media figures. He really reads up on the people he's interviewing and on these claims before bringing them up. The man is my journalistic idol.

22. Are the Comedy Central interviews with wingnuts real interviews, or
are they edit/spliced from other "straight news" media? Like the "anti-Clinton library" guy. I'm trying to wrap my mind around why some of these dudes would be interviewed by TDS knowing they're going to be made to look like asses. Unless they figure that kind of exposure is better than no exposure.

Then again, I don't know why respectable liberal or Dem figures would appear on Hannity or O'Reilly knowing they're going to be shouted down by an audience of wingnuts or the host, have their mike cut, etc.

23. The guy making the anti-MM movie said that this type of exposure is better
than no exposure... So they do it knowingly. And some actors have really called them assholes and worse. Asner was a classic: when Couddry???? told him what the RW nuts called him, he just called him nuts and an asshole... it was su funny!

24. Stewart was asked this question when he was on Larry King
Someone called in and asked why these people don't run when they see Rob or Steven and Jon's reply was something like "everyone likes to be on TV."

here it is

CALLER: I'm just wondering why when people see one of "The Daily Show" correspondents like Stephen Colbert.

STEWART: Yes, Stephen Colbert, a very talented man.

CALLER: Very, (UNINTELLIGIBLE) or Rob Corddry.

STEWART: Very talented.

CALLER: Why don't they just run the other way?

How do you get those segments?

STEWART: That's an excellent question.

KING: Why do they?

STEWART: People love to be on the TV, and if you show up with a camera they will sit and talk to you.

KING: No matter how they're embarrassed or what. STEWART: Have you seen the Jerry Springer Show.

KING: That's where they -- yes, I've seen Jerry Springer. They volunteer.

STEWART: That's not coercive. That's not Abu Ghraib. That's people wanting to be on the TV. And we do a much -- we just let them say what they're going to say and just know that we have the edit room. But for the most part they get to speak their mind. We don't change the content.

25. real
Bonilla started off his interview with Steward by admitting he had never seen The Daily Show until he was invited the previous week. He had no idea what to expect and Jon nailed him :D

Others go on because they think they are getting good exposure and mistakenly think they can hold their own with Jon, who is well researched. Actually, I've seen a few shows where Jon got 'owned' by his guest, so it's give and take.

As for the taped stories, see the link I provided above. These stories are about real people....they are just milked for humor.

26. A couple of reasons

For one thing, I can't imagine a whole lot of RWers watching Jon on any kind of regular basis.
Because of that (and maybe they have even seen him once or twice) they completely underestimate him.
Jon Stewart is extremely intelligent and, more importantly, VERY well informed.
They probably figure he's just some Comedy Central schmuck and even if he does call them on their bullshit, what the hell, its just a comedy show.

A lot of people are catching on though, and TDS is NOT just a comedy show anymore. (even if it is the funniest damn thing on TV these days)

Im in awe of the entire Daily Show staff, and what they've been able to do... but mostly Jon! :loveya:

28. At one point in time
the only people Jon Stewart was interviewing were supporting actors in up coming movies, now he is interviewing congresscritters, mediawhores, and presidential nominees. His 'power' has increased dramatically and as long as his rating continue to increase, Jon will be our advocate even if all the rest of the media fails.
