I said it once before, and very few agreed. If they go with a moderate, intelligent Republican.....we will have a harder time. I may be way off base, but he is becoming damaged goods.

5. Dubya is just a figurehead...
...there are other ways the could clear the ticket for another puppet to play home to Cheney's hand, ways that would garner them sympathy and an excuse to declare MARTIAN LAW!

8. 1968
LBJ did not run for re-election.

And the convention has not occurred yet. It's still possible, although highly improbable.

came much earlier in the year -- March 31 to be precise.

7. Oh they'll use him
they'll use him. They're MORE afraid of looking stupid by changing out than they are of losing. They're willing to gamble that people are stupid enough to still vote for him.

Either way, he's toast. Isn't that nice to hear?

9. Unless all hell breaks loose...
Dub's going to be re-nominated and, unfortunately, Mr. "Go F*** yourself" will be, too. Those delusional Repubs are still under the illusions that 1) Dub actually won last time, and 2) He's a strong, "bold" leader and a "popular wartime preznit". And they looove Cheney (well, all but Al D'Amato, that is!:eyes: ). Anybody who can get away with the crimes he's committed AND still take in $260 grand a year in pension from Halliburton has to be all right in their perverse little books.

I just wish they would represent who they REALLY are in prime time and give Tom Delay, oh, about an hour at the podium--that would do it, all right!:eyes:

10. "They" don't have a moderate repub. and "they" don't want one
The Repub's have become completely assimilated. Resistance is futile.
Either join the moderate Dem's or get another party.

12. I think it's too late for them.

The GOP let Bush do anything and everything he wanted to do - no questions asked. They constantly praised and defended him, no matter how bad things got.

So ... all of a sudden, three months before the election, they're going to decide that Bush is a disaster? I'm not saying they won't do it, I'm just saying it won't matter because they will lose what little credibility they have left! After all, Bush didn't screw things up overnight, so where the hell were these people for the last 3 1/2 years? All along, they said Bush was a great pResident, now they're going to say that Bush is not their man? If it was a year before the election, maybe they could pull it off, but now it's too little, too late.

17. I agree with your assessment.
And maybe, they really don't care. "Mission accomplished"

* Close to $1TT moved from the Fed. Government into the hands of the of the richest 2%.
* Secured the oilfields for Big Oil.
* Took away options to wean us off Big Oil, by wiping out the surplus.
* Let the Democrats raise taxes to fix the problems and they can complain that we're tax and spenders.

The joke is on us, I'm afraid.

Yeh, I know most think they will keep him. I just have a feeling in my bones about it. I have those sometimes, but I seldom say anything.

Correct about the Republicans, they have lost their souls.

The bible belt and single issue voters won't show up if they nominated someone like Guiliani. It will be Bush.
