I'm disappointed that we didn't get a bigger bounce from the DNC but...
as I listen to Cokie Roberts and the other talking heads who opine that Kerry got no bounce, it needs to be understood that this election is far different from any other. Never have we had such a polarized nation with 45% Kerry and 45% shrub and only about 10% undecided. The undecided voters will wait until the very last minute to decide who to vote for. Given this years scenario, I am not surprised that the bounce wasn't bigger. Any thoughts??

KERRY/EDWARDS "Help is finally on the way!!"

1. The polls are biased
Ask the people, not the pollsters...

2. Before the convention, Kerry's pollster
predicted no real bounce because Kerry was already way ahead of most challengers as far as shoring up his base.

4. Start Reading The Cook Political Report
I read the Cook Political Report on-line and they predicted before the convention that the bounce would be small. The main reason they gave was that the majority of Democrats are solidly behind Kerry and likewise with most Republicans. Undecided Independents will most likely wait until a few weeks after the Republican convention to make their decision on how they'll vote.

5. Here is my opinion about the 'bounce' thing.
After the DNC pollsters were busy trying to get their numbers, but WE were all busy organizing Kerry house parties, talking to republicans that are completely ignorant to what is going on in the world, talking to unregistered voters about why this election is so important and making plans to attend Kerry rallies.

I feel a great majority of Dems and Kerry supporters were WAY too busy because the DNC motivated us so much. We didn't have time to take part in any polls.

6. 48-48 before the convention..?? Where would the bounce come from?
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 09:32 PM by SoCalDem
Bush supporters??? not likely.. With 4% "undecided", how on earth could he get a "bounce" of any size..

Ask yourself these questions:

1. Will any Gore voters be voting for Bush this time, because he did such a good job??

2. Will Nader "died-in-the-wool" voters admit to being wrong, and come out for kerry before they go into the voting booth?

3. Does anyone expect "ditto-heads" to desert their guy??

4. Is there ANY way to factor in the multitude of people who sat out last election, and have since become "fired up" to boot Bush out??

5. With a "draft" looming, can they blithely ignore the younger voters this time around??

Unless Kerry shoots himself in the foot, there willl be some surprised people on Nov 2..(unless Diebolded:(..)
