Terrorist Alert, Al Sadr house surrounded, Bush dominates(long post)
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 01:02 PM by candy331
air time on TV with this and will continue to do so, that is one of their strategies to make it seem like he is the only one who can make America safe and to portray Kerry and Dems as week. Any bump that Kerry got from the convention is probably now being swallowed up with fear with this terror alert. This doesn't bode well for this side, the Dems are going to have to take Bush head on because that side goes for the jugular and is determined to hand a death blow to Kerry and Dems.
I'm afraid the Mr nice guy strategy has to be reassessed because the nasty of the nastiest has been pulled out by the Bush team and being nice is good if it exposes the weakness of the opponent and cripples him but if he just gets stronger then all gloves has to come off if one expects to win.
I know some say put a positive message out there because people don't want to hear negatives, but let's face it people do want to hear negatives when was the last time someone bought a newspaper because the headlines was positive or all the information in it was positive, why do the tabloid headlines grab people at the check out counter, why are the Peterson, the Bryant trials grabbing the headlines? Face it folks people do like negatives in fact they love em but it is all in the way it is packaged and promoted. Right now this generic packaging by Kerry and the Dems is taking a beating and unless it is repackaged into eye catching apeal(in this case ear catching)it just may not survive on the market.

An observation by me that doesn't have to be agreed on by all/any but put here as food for thought.

1. Could backfire
If attacking Al Sadr results in more violence in Iraq, which seems likely, I think it'll backfire on Bush. Not to contradict you, but we shall see...

6. Seems to me
Seems to me the other side has been getting a break in the lack of news from Iraq. Bad news from Iraq doesn't do * any good.

3. I think you're pretty much on target
There's no way we're going to Leiberman this thing and win it.

And I'd argue that there's a big difference between pointing out the reality of Bush's failures, versus the kind of smear-and-slime routine the repugs have employed.

Just the facts, ma'am -- that's all we need. The truth is damning enough.

JK's got a responsibility to point out where Bush has gone wrong, and if he doesn't ditch the "Son of Gore" leftovers somehow, incredibly, gallingly advising him, we're sunk.

Hopefully we'll see a steady ratcheting-up by JK as the repug convention approaches. And it wouldn't hurt to get the vertebrates among his surrogates back out there in force, too.

4. I disagree with your analysis
because it is based on fear. You say that the Kerry lead "is probably".....

The country is divided and the partisans are not going to switch sides no matter what barring a major development.

There are plenty of surrogates on our side who are hitting Bush with a negative thrust. Kerry is ahead because the swing voters are likely to vote for him if he gives them a good reason to vote for him. They already have a lot of reasons to vote against Bush.

Kerry has been criticizing the Bush policies while offering a positive alternative and it is a winning strategy.

Chill-out, relax, and bring an undecided voter to the polls with you!

5. It's Gonna Be A Long August
During which Kerry's message could easily be drowned out and forgotten
in a blizzard of "terra alerts" and Bush* advertising. Ridge even gave
them a twofer this time, by throwing a free plug for Bush into the terra
alert.

11. Oh no all is lost!
Heck I don't think I'll even bother to vote because I saw a news story that was slanted towards Bush.

The sky is falling.

Help, we just saw Bush go from a 90+ favorability rating to the low 40's and still I'm so worried because everyone in the country doesn't agree with me 100%

Sheesh, give it a rest.

10. The strategy you suggest is the one the Republicans want us to use.

The reality is, Bush is losing, all indicators are that he will lose. Yes, his campaign is now as it has been all along, nothing but negative, 'nasty', and false attacks. It hasn't worked, it isn't working, and it won't work.

Since the strategy that we are using is working, it makes no sense to change it.
