Did anyone see Richard Clarke being interviewed today?
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 12:22 AM by nose pin
I caught a short clip of him on CTV news (Canada) tonight saying that he did not think this alert was politically motivated. It looked like an excerpt from an American news interview, but I didn't catch any logo.

I can't find any interviews with him today on the usual web sites, and would like to see the entire interview. Did anyone see him on TV today?

http://www.ctv.ca

click on the video link titled "CTV News: Matt McClure on the new terror threat". Clarke shows up near the end.

edited to add link.

4. my inner depressive
I've read some things he's said, as well as saw some TV stuff, that contradicts what he said in his book

the main thing is he's distancing himself from what he said about the Saudi flights, making it seem as if it was HIS call to let them go, where he said in the book it was the FBI

he also claims, NOW, that NO Saudis got out without proper SCREENING, I believe was his word this time, where, earlier, he mentioned that his good friend Dale Walton, chief of FBI counter terrorism (and one of the two FBI men who tried to intimidate the Jersey widows, according to them), said that only the most cursory questioning of only about 30 of the 142 Saudis took place. the rest were NOT questioned at all

I couldn't believe that stuff, and got flamed to the nines for bringing it up

this was after I'd started a thread on his book, which, at the time I read it, thought it was one of the most compelling things I'd read in a LONG time

he also was on TV saying that Moore was full of it when he tried to make the Saudi/Bush connection. EXTREMELY dismissive of that part of the movie. I think he said something else about it, but don't remember for sure

wish I could recall more details, cause I think there was still more, but that's what I remember now.

WHERE has he been on all this stuff, recently, btw?

makes me wonder why he's been so mum, seeing as how he's such close pals with Rand Beers and all

Beers, apparently, is quite the piece of work, as well

check his Colombia/war on drugs connections

6. Interesting...
If it is true, which I hope not, it is a shame. He is extremely intelligent and was the only one to apologize to the families of 9/11 victims. That was endearing. It will be interesting to see how he plays out in the months ahead.

thanks.

12. there does seem to be movement from "I didn't approve the
flights, to I may have, or I did..."

Weird and upsetting.

They must have him by the short hairs on something.

7. Richard Clarke is known as a non-partisan and no-nonsense person
Edited on Sun Aug-01-04 11:48 PM by LastDemocratInSC
All of the evidence I have seen indicates that Clarke has always been fair-minded, non-partisan and no-nonsense during his career. If you have evidence that indicates otherwise please share it.

Clarke remains an enigma to most - no doubt about that - but to simply state that Clarke is / was / has always been part of "the dark side" without providing supporting evidence makes your claim hard to accept.

I see him as a former professional employee of the government, specializing in terrorism-related intelligence, who got so fed up with the bullshit going on that he was compelled to say something in a big way to shake up the status quo.

You may know something about Clarke that we don't know - please share it with us. I don't like walking enigmas any more than you.

8. I agree with buyCitgo.....he has back tracked on some of his
initial statements.

He was bold and forthright to start with.

Not sure of his motives, maybe lost of job is a motive, and depends on ABC which is definitely right leaning. But he has changed since the day he spoke and apologized to the families.

Someone got to him. Not sure who or how. But he has gone over to the dark side.

9. The Saudis have plenty of free money
Clarke makes money off the book and money off the Saudis. There is no telling how many Washington insiders have taken advantage of Saudi tax-free bank deposits in some foreign land.

11. Anyway, here's the CTV clip I saw tonight
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 12:20 AM by nose pin
The thread has gone on a tangeant, and no one seems to have seen Clarke today, so here is a link to what I saw. Clarke shows near the end.

http://www.ctv.ca

click on the video link titled "CTV News: Matt McClure on the new terror threat"

edit: I watched the clip again, and it's the reporter who says that Clarke dismisses the charge that the alert is politically motivated. Clarke's comments are edited, so there must be a longer interview out there somewhere. Adding link to original post.
