CNN's coverage: Have they made a conscious, corporate level
decision to try and "outFOX FOX" with their Republican slanted coverage and poach part of their viewership? I think they have. But if so, the sad reality is, it won't even work without the loud shouting commentators like O'Reilly and Hannity, that's the signature "product" that makes FOX what it is, along with the slanted news. Without that at best they will poach a small % of the dedicated FOX viewership.

I wish one of the other networks would take a look at the sales of all the antishrubco books and realize there is a big market for going entirely a different way.

1. But, you do NOT want a truly informed public
by the way thanks for the warning, STAY AWAY FROM CNN... what is left though?

I do hope that soon we will be able to order Cable on Demand. If we all ordered BBC and CSPAN and News World International and skipped the so called big three... they just might get it

3. I have Dish
and have only 10 channels, which I got to choose. Now I want to ditch CNN and replace with BBC/or CSPAN, but they won't let me. I don't want to waste my money on getting 100 channels, so I usually listen to news on the internet instead.

9. I am in agreement
and that's what I've been saying. I want to be able to choose my cable channels and reject others. I in no way, shape, form or fashion want to subsidize CNN or FOX. I want the right to buy a cable product without them.

2. I think without a doubt this is what they have decided.
As I've said before, CNN makes Fox look reasonable.

6. Fox is better than CNN--at least Fox doesn't really pretend to be unbiased
The Cheney News Network is a combination of trivial bullshit and media whores preening to impress the right-wing viewership.

4. The growing market for "lefty" views
will not affect the big networks. There is so much more to be gained by them with Bush's corporate agenda. A few months of Dems pushing their ratings up will be NOTHING compared to the money they stand to rake in once Bush's pro-corporate agenda has come to fruition. Don't expect the demand to make corporate media come around. It won't happen. At least not until they know for SURE Bush is going down. Then, being the whores that they are, they may start to move to the left a bit to up their viewership.

5. THE MUST HAVE - I'm a long time CNN viewer-the changeover was so
...dramatic that I, a viewer who has them on almost 15+ hours a day almost got whiplash!

Very scary...its got me so upset I can barely contain myself....

I love Anderson Cooper, Lou Dobbs and Aaron Brown though....

But the whores Candy Crawly, Wolf Bitcher and Judy Woofwoof etc. are just unbelievable....worse, they suck! They have never been good, never will....

Let them try...they will fail miserably, lose their loyal base (like me) and meanwhile when Kerry is President, will all be out of jobs...

7. Abso-fucking-lutely!
And my stress level couldn't handle it any more....my farewell speech to them......

Goodbye, CNN......

There was a time when you reported the news according to basic journalistic principles....."Just the facts, ma'am. Just the facts."

Now, however, your newscasters intentionally shade and shape their semantics towards a right-wing bias that smacks of organized Conservative propaganda. Blitzer, Woodruff and Crowley are the most blatant, egregious and obnoxious examples of this practice.

That you allow the White House to influence your reporting (ala the Letterman fiasco) is simply unprofessional, unamerican and unacceptable.

My days of enduring skewed and distorted news are over! I can no longer - in good conscience - support you as a viewer and am changing the channel to the news agencies that still maintain honesty, integrity and non-bias in their reporting.

Goodbye, CNN. Goodbye!

8. Make SURE you send them a note about this.
THey'll never know they've lost you, or why they lost you, if you simply turn them off. You have to TELL them you're turning them off.

10. Fair & Balanced?
CNN had Ed Gillespie (sp?) on air offering instant criticism within five seconds of the conclusion of the Kerry speech. Do you think they'll afford Terry and the DNC the same liberty at the RNC?

My guess is no. Actually, I don't think they'll let one voice of dissent speak on cable news. CNN will have Wolf hold court with an endless parade of GOPers. MSNBC has turned Chris Matthews into a Republican (and when he's off air, it's Joe Scarborough). I don't think I need to comment about FOX.

11. Very true.
They will find out, just like the Dems have, that when you try to copy the right, the wingnuts stick with the real thing anyway.

Why vote for a Repug-lite, when you've got a Repug?
Why watch Faux Faux news, when Faux news is already feeding your head?

Bad strategy for CNN. I stopped watching long ago.

12. Who's the chinese-looking woman anchor who slammed Teresa Kerry yesterday?
She played a video of a demure and graceful Jackie Kennedy, then the video of Teresa saying 'shove it', rolled her eyes over it, was simply mocking Teresa Kerry and incredibly negative. It was amazingly slanted and overdone -- this was on Saturday, several days after the 'shove it' comment.
I want to write CNN about it but don't know her name. Did anyone else see it?

The one who asked Bill Schnieder if Kerry already "blew his wad."

(No joke, she actually said that. Here's the DU thread)

13. Here's the problem
Allowing mega-corporate ownership of the media means that the owners are willing to suck up a loss in their media divisions if it means that supressing certain slants on events will help them in other areas.

17. It's POWER, not money
Edited on Sun Aug-01-04 03:41 PM by sandnsea
I just don't think for one minute these people are money driven. The same corporations who want to retain Republican power are the ones that advertise on CNN. They don't care about ratings, that is clear. If they did, why'd MSNBC cancel Donahue? It's about power. No matter what CNN's ratings do, the corporate hogs will continue to pour money into CNN. For POWER. Which always leads to them making more money.

18. I'm a news junkie who's had it on since first day; said goodbye Friday...
on the viewer-comment line, after their coverage of Kerry's speech Thursday night. I've been angry with them often through the years, called and emailed, but, you are right, they are now suddenly Fox -- and, I'm afraid, beyond reach and hope.
