French Death is Funny to these Radio Hosts
Currently I have a long morning drive to work, and decided to listen to an easy going station this morning. They were laughing at the recent deaths in France from the heat wave - really, sick sick stuff. I didn't know the number to call them, and they never gave it, but I will call these jerks tomorrow morning. In the meantime, I wrote the following to my local paper. Just felt the need to post it here, I've been carrying this need to vent all day, and sometimes, for me, that's what DU is for (thnaks for your indulgence :-) )

Anyway, here's what I wrote to the Charleston Post and Courier:

Morning “drive-time” radio has become a sewer of crude remarks and loud, annoying faked laughter. It seems the more shocking the better, and every utterance is presented as absolutely hilarious. Any early morning radio listener today surely knows what they are in for, or do they?

On Thursday morning, Aug. 21, I thought I’d take a break from the mindless crudity and listen to the “light” radio station, “Sunny 96.9 FM.” What I heard was actually shocking, and had me seething with anger and embarrassment. It was the lowest of the low.

Seemed the morning dj team of Dave and Sheree found it very amusing that thousands of French people had died from a recent European heat wave.

The “witty” banter began with the expected (obligatory?) bashing of the French for not supporting our “war on Iraq” (how dare they not say “how high” when bush says “jump.”). The “humor” progressed, with Dave saying we should attack France, because they would be pushovers, the wimps can’t handle the heat. Sheree then did some impressions, in a French accent, of French people falling dead from the heat. And they just laughed and laughed. Death is funny as long as the right people are dying, I guess. My stomach turned.

Never mind the WMDs described to be an imminent threat - the reason we invaded Iraq - have yet to be found; never mind France was not alone in opposing our first-strike attack on Iraq – so did Russia, Germany, China, Canada, Mexico, etc. The French govt. dared defy the bush (mis)administration, and now it is fodder for our morning chuckles that elderly French are dropping dead from a heat wave. Ha ha.

I am ashamed the loving, caring nature of the majority of Americans, South Carolinians, and Charlestonians is tainted by shallow haters with a microphone who trivialize human tragedy for cheap jokes to further insignificant careers.

America does NOT laugh at the tragedy of others, no matter how many flags clueless morons wave from their gutter. At least not the America that I know and love.

2. Did all the other countries who have been living for years
with terrorist attacks laugh at the U.S. on September 11? I seem to remember worldwide outpourings of sympathy. It makes me sick to see how infantile some Americans can be.

5. The French
took off work to hold vigils after 9-11. Can you imagine that happening here?

8. Mention that 2,000 more French have died...
...than people who died on 9/11. That should put it in perspective. Or maybe not. These people cannot be swayed.

9. I sure hope the paper publishes your letter
This is a good example of the drumbeat for change the Bush Administration is beginning to take notice of. We're pissed and we're fighting back! Well done!
